Children draw a picture in the circle, then write a sentence about what they are grateful for below. To differentiate: Lower - staff write what children are grateful for Middle - children dictate sentence. Staff write sentence in yellow pen then children write over yellow felt pen Top - children copy from a model, or write independently. Editable Word document and PDF copies are included.

Postcard Penguin On Holiday Early Years Literacy Children pretend to either be Penguin or Crab. They write a postcard to their friend talking about their holiday.

Letter Formation Early Years Literacy / Phonics / Handwriting Encourage children to form letters correctly by first writing over the orange letter, then trying by themselves. An editable Word document and PDF copy has been included.

This was an end of year task. Children write about what they have enjoyed, their favourite memory, what they are good at, what they need to get better and what they want to be when they are older. They also draw a picture of themselves.

Top group - made predictions before carrying out the experiment Middle group - drew pictures on a table to illustrate the outcome Bottom group - circled the food that sunk.

The children take it in turns to ask each other the question. They answer the question. Then children record their answers on the table. As part of our topic on toys, we planned our explanation writing about how a toy car works. We used the skeleton to help us with our ideas first. We also focused on adjectives to describe old and new.

We wrote sounds on cups/milk lids. We laminated these mats and children had to match the inital sound to the picture.

My Reception children spent half a term learning about caterpillars and butterflies. We learned Makaton actions to the Very Hungry Caterpillar. We watched a makaton video on YouTube. My class wanted to use some of the actions for the minibeasts, and then chose their own actions for other parts of the story. We learned Makaton actions for minibeasts - Mr Tumble CBBC video on YouTube. We painted the story of the Very Hungry Caterpillar. We used this script which includes the songs that we used. We found all of the songs on YouTube and learned them during snack time. The class assembly lasted 10-15 minutes.
