Out of the Blue - a whole term of planning!

(3)
Here we have a who term (13 weeks' worth) of planning for a topic entitled 'Out of the Blue'. This topic as focused on life under the sea including texts such as Hooray for Fish by Lucy Cousins, Commotion in the Ocean by Giles Andreae and The Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch by Ronda and David Armitage. I have included our topic web, medium term plans and weekly planning for Maths and English. I hope that this saves you a lot of time and provides you with some idea for an under the sea topic. This was a real success! Please note that the first 7 weeks of planning for Maths and English involve continuous provision. We established a set of 'busy learning jobs' in Maths and English for the first half term so that the children could settle into Year 1. This worked brilliantly! Enjoy!

Year 1 Letters and Sounds and Weekly Spellings Long-term Plan This document outlines a long-term plan for Letters and Sounds, streaming for 3 Phonics groups and recommended weekly spellings for each group in line with the HFWs and the sounds that have been covered each week. The plan starts with a whole-class review and consolidation of Phase 2 in the Autumn term. Differentiated weekly spellings start in the second half of the Autumn In the Spring term, Phonics teaching is streamed into three groups and the weekly spellings continue. I have not seen a document of this kind anywhere else so I produced it for Key Stage 1 in my school setting. It has been effective and ensured comprehensive coverage and progression of Letters and Sounds along with appropriate and useful spellings. This download includes a PDF version and an editable Word version. Enjoy!

This is a Letters and Sounds assessment to be used for each pupil. At my school we start this assessment in Reception and we assess the children one a term. The assessment is then past up to Year 1 and Year 2. This assessment clearly tracks the children's progress assessing their knowledge of the sounds, high frequency words, blending and segmenting relevant for each phase. I hope that this proves to be a useful tool for you in your setting. This download includes: - An original PDF version of the assessment that I use. - An editabe Word version to tailor the assessment to meet your needs.
