A reading comprehension about Bonfire Night, comprising of a short poem and a first-person text about the author’s view of November 5th. This text can be used in guided reading, whole-class guided reading or independent reading. The text is accompanied by a comprehension quiz. Text can also be used for modelling writing and GPS. Contains some original wording from the Shakespeare script. Some of the names and places are local to me and can be easily adapted to suit other geographical regions. I had my year 6s perform this as a film and it worked very well. Both children and parents greatly enjoyed the experience.

6 questions per sheet differentiated using chillies - so teacher can differentiate or pupil can self-differentiate. Questions for LA based on 3-digit nos divided by 2-digit nos (no remainders), building to 4-digit nos divided by 2-digit with remainders for MA and HA. A full workout on long multiplication - starting with multiplying 3 numbers by a 2-digit number and progressing to 4 digits multiplied by 2-digits. Exercise provides a 15 question workout that focuses greatly on the 6,7,8 and 9 times tables and tests pupils’ handling of larger numbers from the 20s to the 90s. Ideal as a maths revision task, holding task or starter/plenary. Answers are included on pages 3 and 4 for ease of marking.

Two starter exercises for warming up the word - a good starter for when children come in first thing in the morning - can be continued as the morning exercise throughout the week. 1st exercise = 48 synonyms to be matched. 2nd exercise = 48 antonyms to be matched. Words vary in difficulty and demand on prior vocabulary knowledge so will suit children of differing abilities. Good opportunities for discussion and use of thesaurus if needed.

Match up task where children need to match the relevant polyhedron with both its name and correct properties. There is a 1 and 2 star sheet with the same content but a difference in how much information is given to the child. Shapes include, pyramids, prisms, sphere/hemisphere, cube/cuboid etc.

Three differentiated worksheets incorporating area and perimeter of rectangles (touching a little on compound shapes). One star sheet for basic understanding of A and P, with more manageable numbers. Two star Sheet for middle understanding where larger numbers and long multiplication are required to solve problems. Brief worksheet aimed at expected level year 6s. Provides a useful example of multi-step problem solving with money, much like those children can expect to find in a reasoning SAT paper. Answers to the money problems are included for ease of marking and assessment.

An exercise where children will have to study two sets of temperature data produced in Excel. They will need to interpret this data and answer questions relating to difference, negative numbers in context, more than, less than etc. A good task to demonstrate current understanding and track progress in data handling. Also a useful exercise in the run-up to the SATs as reading line-graphs and interpreting negative numbers in context is often present.
