An introduction to crime for AQA GCSE Sociology.

This revision presentation covers all the major concepts and key words that have come up in the GCSE Sociology AQA Specification. The slides are mix and match and colleagues can break this down into specific sessions focussed on Studying Society, Families and Education. I have added some revision questions in to support.

Pupil friendly revision guide for the AQA GCSE Sociology Unit 2 Topic on the mass media. The revision notes have been made with pupils in mind. They can also be used by NQTs to brush up on subject knowledge. More to come.

A presentation to support pupils knowledge of the different families in Britain today. Covers the key requirements of the Specification including the functions of family.

A one page document that covers the theories of sociology across the 6 topics of studying society, family, education, crime, media and inequality. The document offers summary statements that can allow pupils to develop further arguments and make more links. It worked really well with my Year 11s especially the lower and middle ability pupils who were able to interpret suggest and make statements about the theories in their 5 and 12 mark responses.

Hi colleagues I have put together responses for every 4 mark question since 2011 in AQA Paper 1 Studying Society. Repeat questions and topics have also not been included. I used recalled AQA scripts, the relevant Mark scheme and teacher marking to write them. Hope it helps

Crime, Inequality and Media model responses to 5 mark questions for paper 2. I have answered over 32 questions for 5 marks Using mark schemes, pupil responses and exam report feedback. These questions have come up routinely since 2011 till now. I will continue developing them moving onto 12 mark questions for paper 1 and paper 2. We still have one more year with this spec. hope it helps in the final two weeks. Only 10 questions have been omitted which were similar to questions already answered.

We teach Sociology 9-1 to a very mixed ability grouping. These model answers focus on 3 and 4 mark questions which focus on specific knowledge AO1 and AO2. They can support a wide range of target grades, lower ability pupils can use them to practice and learn how to respond to questions. Middle and Higher ability pupils can use them to augment them further. I have used the AQA recommended Textbook by Collins which features many of the practice questions. I have further used the exam spec, mark scheme indicative knowledge and textbook to develop each response. Feedback much appreciated. I anticipate these model responses can be used every year with a broad range of pupils. Appreciate feedback.

Hi all. Please see my key words glossary for Unit 1 AQA Sociology covering every key word from the specification in pupil friendly language. You can use this for revision, planning and interventions. I think it could be really helpful as the subject can be very wordy and pupils can lose confidence. This will help pupils quickly understand the key words and how to apply them. Hi All, I have undertaken a painstaking examination of every topic that has come up for GCSE AQA Sociology course examinations since 2010. Paper 1 Studying Society, Family and Education. Paper 2 Crime, Media and Social Inequality. It will help target pupils revision by observing the frequency of topics and the typical combinations. It will enable teachers to plan and target learning for pupils based on their Target/Progress 8 Grade. Every Exam paper was looked at and the key topic and related topic tabled. GCSE Grade boundaries for the course Paper 1 and Paper 2 in a simple table (June Series). I want to continue developing targeted appropriate resources that aim to raise progress and support teachers who may not wish to download and print everything on the AQA website so this will help with planning and preparation. Please do offer feedback as I will continue developing resources for this course.

A Lesson on official statistics in crime to support a critical awareness of what Official statistics show. Pupils can also engage with a self report study to develop an awareness of other methodologies. It was an engaging lesson and pupils enjoyed playing a detective. They also noticed that the disadvantages and advantages were misplaced which was good as they recognised advantages and disadvantages of the survey method.

AQA Sociology GCSE Key concepts covers Unit 1 Studying Society and Unit 2 Crime media and inequality. This document has been made to help pupils revise the core concepts of AQA GCSE Sociology, such as labelling, formal social control and socialisation. It links concepts to key topics such as media, family, crime, inequality and education. Colleagues can use them as prompters for pupils where they have to give explanations. They can also draw links which are credible in the mark scheme.
