Jack The Ripper Introduction PPT
Scares the daylights out of year 9 students! This PPTX auto runs and is a perfect introduction to Victorian England for your History Students. Suitable for English and International Curricula!
I have not been able to upload the audio track that supports the power point due to copyright restrictions but… if you are able to then download a copy of ‘The Nobodies’ by Marilyn Manson and tell power point to start playing the track on slide one and finish at the end so that the music plays over the slides.
If you do this then you will note that the music and the text on the slides are timed to work together with lyrics and on screen imagery working in tandem.
This makes an excellent starter lesson to the topic. When students have watched it through once ask them to re-watch the PPT but this time they need to note down:
The names of all the murder victims
The name of the detective assigned to the case
Any key details about each murder that they think would merit further investigation.
Detente - hot or cold graph and research document
I created this document to work with the Hodder textbook - the Cold War. Students use the A3 sheet to research the complex Detente elements and place them on the graph chronologically and also whether it warmed or cooled relations between the superpowers.
It worked really well to help cover and revise Detente.
Motte and Bailey Castles
Some prior knowledge of castles is required for this lesson to work effectively. I completed this lesson for an observation and received an outstanding.
Complete the knowledge builder by allowing students to guess the answer based on the first, second or third clue. When they have guessed they cannot change their answer i.e. guess on the first clue for three points and then they realise they have it wrong on the third clue - they cannot change.
This is then followed by castle an exercise where the castles key features are incorrectly identified - students have to correct the error.
The lesson features both starter and plenary as well as Emerging, Developed, Secured and Mastered lesson objectives.
Edexcel CRIME and ANGLO SAXON 1-9 Walk and Talk Mocks with Therapy.
I made this resource for my GCSE Groups and used it alongside the PiXL Smith Pro-Forma generator. If you dont have access to PiXL this still worked really well.
Stage 1: Set the Exam. Students sit the examination as a formal mock exam.
Stage 2: Mark the exams but not in detail. Use the included marking spreadsheet (which can be used to upload to PiXL if you have access) to RAG each question for each student. You then issue them with the therapy that matches there need.
Stage 3: Issue and complete the therapy documents.
Stage 4: Re-Sit the exam question which they have completed the therapy for.
Stage 5: Revel in the improved outcome of your learners.
