Year 2 Identifying properties of 3D shapes To be printed and laminated so that whiteboard pens can be used to scribe. Could be used as play dough mats or challenge children to use playdough and cocktail sticks / straws or even nets of shapes to make them. You could also use them alongside 3D shape manipulatives. 7 shape mats included ( cone, cube, cuboid, sphere, square based pyramid, triangular prism and cylinder). Vocab - vertices, edges and faces as well as shape names mentioned above.

1 - Explore 3D shape properties Practical activity in which children build a slope out of construction resources and test whether 3D shapes roll, slide or both. They sort them into Venn diagrams as they go. Print to A3 size and laminate. 2 - Vocabulary sheet - encourage children to use the words when talking about shapes 3- Matching activity Print this sheet twice and laminate to play a matching game. The player with the most pairs wins. 4- Instructions for matching game to support independent play.
