TASTER DAY
A PPT that can be used as a taster day lesson for prospective Year 12 students.
It contains:
A definition of what Criminology is
Overview of FAQs around Criminology
Clarification about the course in terms of A-level equivalent
Main task: Students read Charles Whitman case study and have a debate regarding main causes of crime (i.e. his childhood, tumour on the brain, operant conditioning from earning sharpshooter badges in the Marines)
Plenary: From the picture, students guess whether the individual is a serial killer or criminologist - overview of their work appears once students guess
Extra task: Students put Lombroso’s atavistic theory to practice and see whether an individual’s physical characteristics can lead to information regarding their crime.
For anyone not confident in the course or introducing it from new, there are suggested answers/information in the notes sections of the PPT.
All required printed materials are featured at the end of the PPT ready to print.
**SUMMER INTRO TASK
**
A PPT which should be printed as a booklet to hand out to any prospective Year 12 students.
It contains:
Overview of what a Level 3 Diploma is
“Why study Criminology” overview
Information on how students are assessed and what a controlled assessment is
Transition work contents page which students can tick
A series of 6 tasks:
1 - Criminology in the media [students watch 3 documentaries to watch and makes notes on key facts]
2 - Serial killer fact file [students research a serial killer of choice]
3 - All about hate [articles around hate crime]
4 - Crime in different areas [students use Police crime maps to analyse crime in urban vs. rural areas]
5 - Keywords [students research keywords and make a glossary]
6 - Campaigns for change [students research two campaigns from suggestions and make notes]
The intro task booklet is fully editable (I have make some text in red, bold and underlined which should be changed by you i.e. adding your name/email address). If you are new to the course, the first few pages of the booklet might help you familiarise yourself with the course.
10 lessons covering the new GCSE AQA Psychology specification Social Influence topic. Designed for use by a non-specialist so includes model answers alongside exam practice.
It also comes with an overview topic checklist sheet that students can tick off when they complete each lesson.
Starter and plenary included in each lesson.
There are evaluation activities suitable for high ability (writing their own PEE paragraphs) and low ability (identifying whether statements are strengths/weaknesses).
The lessons come alongisde a set of worksheets which correspond to all planned activities which makes tracking effort and attendance considerably easier - if a pupil is absent for a lesson I simply give them the worksheet.
I have also included revision activities such as A3 summary sheets.

A collection of resources aimed at students in their 2nd year of study, sitting the AQA A-level Psycholgy exam. Each statistical test is covered over 2 pages within the 21-page booklet and involves students working through each test. The 21-page booklet is student friendly and has step-by-step instructions as well as extra guidance on each PowerPoint dedicated to each statistical test.
PLEASE NOTE: This does not cover the sign test as this is taught in Year 1.

A poster that can be printed and given to students to encourage greater use of keywords, knowledge of command words and effective evaluation.
It contains a list of key words for the memory, perception and development topics as well as the title of the key studies required for each topic. It has an evaluation diagram on there to encourage students to ‘build’ their evaluation and also a description of what the three main command words are (describe, apply, evaluate). My students love this and refer to it often.
