Mastery-style worksheet aimed at simplifying expressions using algebra tiles. Ideal to introduce students to using algebra tiles. Questions are intelligently varied, getting progressively more difficult and include a ‘challenge’ section where answers are then substituted into more complex questions. Images of algebra tiles are shown so no need to have the physical manipulatives to hand. Designed for upper KS2 and KS3 with little knowledge of algebra.

Clues involve solving simple linear equations, finding missing terms of sequences, answering questions about number of sides of shapes and prime and square numbers and using a co-ordinates grid. Designed to be used as a retrieval task and is suitable for all key stage 3, depending on ability.

Complete mastery-style lesson including worksheets and answers. Lesson works through adding and subtracting fractions with same denominators, denominators that are multiples of each other and then different denominators, including mixed numbers throughout. Bar modelling is used to represent fractions for most of lesson, removing as students gain confidence. Suitable for KS2, KS3 and some lower attaining KS4 classes.
