A fully resourced double lesson on the Egyptians which includes:
- Easy to follow objectives which the students can measure progress against using a bar
- A mixture of activities that includes watching a video clip and filling out a data capture sheet, creating and playing a board game and extended writing
- You will need A3 sheets for the board game. It requires pupils to measure and plot which helps with their math's skills and create counters for the game
A full revision guide for GCSE specs and those with an interest in how different crimes and punishments have changed through time. Easy to print off and distribute to pupils to help with revision of key topics.

A superb lesson I have used for numerous observations before. It works well as it is well paced, has group work and helps pupils consolidate their knowledge at the end with some extended writing.
You need some sugar paper or plain A3 would do. Stick the picture of a Motte and Bailey castle and the Stone Keep castle on either side of the sheet prior to the lesson. A good plan of how to run the lesson is below:
Starter: A map image is displayed showing Norman castles that were built by William the Conqueror. Pupils asked questions about the map e.g. What do the locations of the castles tell you about England at the time?
New Learning: Learning objectives displayed and pupils record the relevant one for their target grade into their exercise books.
Pupils watch a short clip about Norman castles and then answer some questions about them with the aid of a PowerPoint slide.
Learning development: In pairs, use the sugar paper to explore, analyse and consider the effectiveness of Motte and Bailey and Stone castles. Afterwards, pupils stick their own versions of the castles in in their books and complete a series of levelled activities.
Plenary: Think of a 15 second sales pitch you would give William about why he should invest in each type of castle to help him control the English.
Revisit Learning Objectives: Pupils consider how/why they have met their learning objective.
Designed for the new Edexcel History specification to be taught from 2016 and first examined in 2018.
A 22 page stand alone booklet for the Modern Depth Study that you can print off and distribute to students. A great way to get them practicing each type of exam question.
- All sources are included in the booklet
- Before each question there is a tips page with key information on how to approach it
- For questions 1 and 2 there are two different types of question so they have more chances to practice
- A box is available so teachers can comment on how to improve
- The correct space is allocated for each question so pupils are aware of how much to write.
A generic double lesson that could be used in a variety of subjects as an introduction to aspects of leadership. The lesson is based around ideas of pupils and then looking at 3 case studies - Abraham Lincoln, Karen Brady and Alex Ferguson. After looking at summaries of their life stories, pupils can debate similarities and differences in their experiences, turning points and other interesting observations. Certainly creates debates in the classroom!
I have used this as an introduction to Jesus and also for a Growth Mindset themed day in school.

I have used this simple activity for the past few years as an introduction to History in year 7. Though it can be adapted for other subjects.
Give pupils 10 minutes to walk around and find people who they a share a hobby etc with. Put a cap on naming the same person twice to avoid friendships. Then go through each question and get their views. This is where you can discuss social History and tell them about topics they are going to learn about.
A two page homework task that gets pupils to attempt a series of inference questions based on posters from WWI and WWII. This is good as an introductory homework which can then be followed up the next lesson with some self and peer marking.
A double lesson on Operation Mincemeat. The story of how the British used the body of a dead tramp to trick Hitler into thinking the Allies would attack at a certain location in the Mediterranean. The lesson has a link to the BBC documentary on YouTube (look in notes on PP slide) and a data capture sheet for pupils to complete afterwards.

** In this lesson you will need the white Crime and Punishment Through Time textbook in order to use the excellent Roman city scene showing the punishments. If you can't get hold of this you will have to adapt one of the activities or create your own scene**

I found parents were really positive to have an A5 sheet to take away with key dates of the exams, links to revision websites/text and other information such as the specification.
