These texts can also be used for creative writing purposes.
The first text explains how giants became extinct. The second text explains how young fairies develop the ability to fly.
Both explanations contain an analysis of the language features to include in the pupils' own explanations.
These example texts can be used by pupils to:
- observe the features of explanations
- rewrite the explanations using their own language or by borrowing phrases

The first text is the diary of a ghost whose house has suddenly been invaded by a new family. The second text is the diary of a witch's cat who is fed up with the hopelessness of his witch.
Both diaries contain an analysis of the language features to include in the pupils' own diaries.
