Hold your own SPELLING BEE for KS2 BOOK WEEK

(23)
Here is nearly everything you need to hold your own Spelling Bee. The spelling lists relate to famous children's books so it could be held during a Book Week. You will need a microphone. It is also worth having a cup made for each year group and having each winner&'s name engraved on it. We are shortly holding our first one. I think we will put the words from the lists for each year group in separate hats and have rounds where they individually come up and have to spell the word, by using letter names, speaking into the microphone. If you use this let me know how it goes!

PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK! There is also a new file I have created which shows you how to link the new national curriculum statutory spelling lists into Big Spellings.

Smartboard Write your own Adventure story Yr3/4/5

This resource links to my other resource 'Egyptian Adventure Story on Smartboard&'. Once they have learned and imitated that story they are ready to write their own.PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK! This is a very visual resource with lots of pictures of characters and treasures to help them generate interesting ideas. This resource works best when taught in the style of Pie Corbett (learn, imitate, innovate) The boxing up chart helps them to structure their story in 5 clear paragraphs.

You need to have Smart board software to access this lesson as it is all on the slides. PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK! There is a drama activity first where the children act out what they would do if there was an air raid. There are sound effects to play as they do this. Make the classroom as dark as possible. Then there is a structured poem that they can create based on their experiences and what they heard.

Dyslexia Friendly Spelling Lists KS1 and KS2 Big Spellings

(2)
This resource can be used along side my other Big Spelling resources. Big Spellings can be used in a primary or junior school so that each child has a spelling list to suit their ability. (see my other resources which include initial assessments and full instructions). These lists can be used for a few children in each class who really struggle to retain spellings. Each week these Dyslexia Friendly spellings consist of the same 5 High Frequency Words for 3 weeks in a row. Each week the other 5 spellings change and are phonic based, with the easier sounds first. Photocopy and cut up the 18 questions on to card and place on each table. The children will need to know about compass points including NW, NE etc. This lesson helps them to understand quarter turns, half turns and three-quarter turns, compass points and anti-clockwise and clockwise. Practise with the children and see if they can follow instructions themselves, getting them to e.g. face North, turn a quarter turn anti-clockwise. The Smart board introduces the lesson and there is a quiz. The children can mark their work at the end.PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK!

Year 3 /4 Art Patch Work Project

The children really enjoy creating a beautiful symmetrical piece of patch work which can be hung together all year as a lovely colourful display. I am proud of my original idea, inspired by a book on Amish patchwork. PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK! No sowing involved! I used fabric glue instead! A great project for the autumn term. The Smart board slides show examples of what the patch work piece might look like but the slides and lesson plans take them step by step through creating their own unique piece. There is an overview of the project with learning objectives.

This is a Smart Board resource I have made to go with the activity from the nrich website. PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK! There is a link here to find the other resources/sheets you will need from the website. I have also made a recording sheet and a plenary sheet. The main aim of the lesson is to get the children to record their work as they go along, but they are also practising adding and subtraction skills. I have allowed calculators to be used but this could be made more challenging by not allowing them!

This is a lesson which introduces children to working out subtraction by finding the difference between the two 2-digit numbers numbers by using a number line. Follow the lesson and then on the SB there are 8 sums, 1 star and 8 sums, 2 star for them can choose from. I let them choose which level to start on. If they finish ask them to do the other sums. They must use a number line each time. PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK! I have attached a blank mult square for the starter. Plenary is marking their work-answers on the SB.
