This two Year 3/4 English interview lesson about sentence types and effective writing has been rated Outstanding by Ofsted inspectors. They can be flexibly used alone or together. Children will use a picture prompt to create a paragraph of writing in lesson 1 and in lesson 2 they will produce a storyboard based on a film clip about Aladdin, learning how to use a compound and complex sentences effectively. It includes: two lesson plans, two PowerPoint presentations, differentiated tasks and extra resources (such as word banks). This assessment starts at Phase 2 and tests through to Phase 6. Teachers just need to point at each sound and word and get children to read each one. If a child gets it right, it can be checked off. Previously, I have created one of these booklets for each child and placed in a folder for TAs to ‘pick up and go’ as interventions or early morning work.
