A selection of activities used in early years linked to the book Dear Zoo. Maths activities include weighing the animals using numicon and literacy activities include using talk for writing actions, drawing story maps and innovating the story.

Some activities we used in Early Years linked to the story 'The Papaya that Spoke' using talk for writing. Children used actions to retell the story, made story maps then innvoated the story to create a new story 'the strawberry that spoke.'

Children used the Numcion to investigate how many ways they could make 10 by adding 3 numbers.

Topic web on holes. Super topic for getting the boys engaged, Ideas such as digging holes, drilling holes, food with holes and animals that live in holes.

This is a class assembly I used with year 1 children. It has information about castles and then the children act out their own fairy tales.

I used this plan for a lesson observation in Spring term with Reception children. It involves teaching subtraction from 10 using Numicon.
