This is a detailed lesson and PowerPoint explaining half-life of isotopes. This is the eighth lesson in the Atomic Structure unit of work (P4). The lesson explains the random nature of radioactive decay, the use of mathematical and graphical procedures to calculate and use half-life and has example graphs to show how to do this. There is also an experiment idea and a results table that can be exported to a spreadsheet for analysis. There is a detailed lesson plan with notes on teaching, a PowerPoint to support the lesson and three examples with answers to test pupil understanding.
