This lesson covers the three main rectification circuits, complete with animated diagrams to help students understand how they create the DC output from an AC input for bi-wave and full-wave variants. Protection circuits and the use of Zener diodes are also briefly covered, together with an worked example circuit question.

It covers the basic formula for calculating farads, for calculating capacitance from the properties of a capacitor, the exponential formulae for charging and discharging a capacitor, and the formula for the energy stored in a capacitor.

This PowerPoint lesson on Electromagnetism covers the formation of a magnetic field around a current carrying wire using the right hand grip rule, solenoid construction and the methodology of working out which was to orientate a magnetic field through a solenoid.

This PowerPoint lesson on Electric Motors covers the application of the motor effect (See previous lesson) in the creation of DC electric motors. This lesson recaps the formula F=BIL and then applies this to DC motor construction. The main design components are a loudspeaker are also covered. There is a choice of two PowerPoints to download due to the size of one which contains a short video clip of a loudspeaker showing the vibrations change with amplitude change of input AC.

This PowerPoint lesson on Magnets covers the basics on drawing magnetic fields around bar magnets, both on their own and when attracting and repelling each other. There is also a PDF worksheet with three magnet drawings for the pupils to complete.

This PowerPoint lesson on Generators shows how a rotating coil within a magnetic field can produce a sinusoidal output voltage (potential difference) in a circuit. Oscilloscope readings for an AC suply are looked at in detail so that students can calculate the peak voltage and time period from a diagram. Output wave forms are considered and examples are shown on how these change when the variables of the rotating coil are changed. Finally the engineering systems in a power station generator are covered.
