The main activity is a match up activity that works really well if printed on different coloured card (essential-green, excel-orange, challenge- red and the answers in blue). Students can then match up the answers and the observer or the teacher can easily see who is on which level. The blue answers have a one mark answer (not simplified) and a two mark answer (simplified) to again differentiate between the students. The answers are also attached. The plenary is a singing plenary (frozen), the students use their mini whiteboards to give answers, if the answers are correct, then part of frozen will play to them.
This lesson is aimed at lower ability students or students that have not done rounding before. There is a complete lesson, with a main activity. The best way to do the main activity, is to cut the 'post if notes' and either stick them in groups (essential questions together, excel questions together etc) around the room, or put them in piles around the room. Students then get an answer grid that they fill in when they pick up a question and answer it. Students need to check what question number they are answering and which level of challenge to make sure they answer in the correct box. There is a tip sheet that can be printed and again put around the room for students wanting to complete to 1sf. Answers are provided and students can write a strength and target following on from that. There is a singing plenary to finish with. This is where students are asked a question, they are to answer it on their mini whiteboards, if they get the answer correct, part of family guy will play.

Personally, I get students to complete this by themselves in silence to show themselves what they have achieved within the lesson.
There is a Brain in Gear activity which helps students with the factorising quadratics. Then a differentiated starter activity expanding and factorising expressions. Then the lesson walks through how to factorise quadratics with challenge questions and what it will look like for students in their exams. The essential is to factorise positive quadratics and excel is to factorise any, challenge to be able to solve. There is a slide that explains how to do this for students when they are completing the differentiated match up activity. There are three levels so I print them on green, orange and red card with the answers in blue so that the observer and yourself can see which level students are doing. The plenary activity looks at the 3 levels of challenge and students have to answer with their mini whiteboards.
Whole lesson on changing large and small numbers into standard form. The challenge is to change out of standard form. Here are differentiated GCSE questions colour coded for students to complete. These can be printed and placed into plastic wallets and students complete using their mini whiteboards. They can also be given as a booklet for students to complete. Another way is to put students into groups and then get the students to complete the questions together. This can be differentiated by which students you pick. There is also a plenary activity which can be used at the end of the lesson to assess students. I usually make students do this in silence and by themselves to reflect on the learning that they have done today. The answers are also provided.
