This lesson get students to think about causation and why William won at the Battle of Hastings. The main task is a card sort where students first put events in chronological order then attempt to make a diamond nine. Deciding which factors were most important. There is a interactive plenary or afl task included. There is a GCSE styled question with a writing frame to help those who struggle.

A year 7 lesson that attempts to build on historical source skills. This lesson works well after a lesson that looks at the tapestry in a bit of detail. Students use information from the previous lesson with the quick recap of the Bayeux Tapestry. Then as a class or as a solo task students go through the nature, origin etc to work out if the source is useful. This culminates into a GCSE styled source question. There is a writing frame to aid with writing. Include an interactive plenary where students vote using the Poll slide as to whether the tapestry is useful or not.

This lesson aims to get Year sevens thinking about sources and their provenance. Students use the card sort to work out the story of the bayeux tapestry and to then work out from the source how we know it supports William. The aim of the lesson is to be able to answer a GCSE source question. There is a writing frame included for those who need help with writing.

All the key words have images to help prompt students. These are great for revision. I print them so that 8 are on 1 page so they are smaller. Then laminate Following tasks can be completed with them: - Students have to define key words given to them - Students have to group key words that link together -Students can write definitions of the back and test each other. - Give a table the whole back and time them whilst sorting them into groups of defining them. - Use these are cards for dictionary/taboo/ charades

This lesson is aimed at looking at how the monarchy’s power changed under King Richard II. Students look at why the Peasant’s Revolt happened under king Richard. Students are challenged to think what this shows about the power of medieval monarchs. There is a GCSE styled question with sentence starters for the less able. There are challenge tasks to stretch the top end. There is also a literacy focus as well, where students need to correct literacy mistakes. There is also a model answer where students use it provide template and to redraft their work. They can also discuss what is good and how they could improve it.

A SOW that looks at the Norman Conquest, starting with claimants to the throne building towards how William kept control. Students then look at how other kings struggled to keep control. Lessons have sentence starters for less able students as well as challenge tasks to stretch the top end. This lesson looks at why so many people died in the Titanic disaster, students consider whether the inquiry after the sinking reached the right conclusion. Students look at evidence to work out the most important reason why some many people lost their lives. Students found this more engaging than looking at why the titanic sank, and were able to create sophisticated judgments to explain the death toll differences of the first and third class passengers. Includes a worksheet to help with arranging information.

This lesson looks at what was happening to African Americans in the 1950’s focusing on the murder of Emmett Till. The lesson is based around the song by Bob Dylan. Students learn about the events of the murder and analyse the song lyrics. Students then complete a GCSE styled question. There is a model answer as well as sentence starters. Students are challenged to compare the lives of African American in the 50’s with what they have learn about the 1920’s.

This lesson looks at whether there were any winners or losers in the Korean War, it includes a GCSE question with sentence starters, as well as a model answer to evaluate. Students carry out a task reflecting on everything they have studied to work out winners and losers but can also use the fact sheet provided if they get stumped. The class can then have a vote using the voting slide and discuss results.

The lesson has got a lot of information to deliver but is broke up with questions to pose to students to assess understanding. The lesson then looks at how the US, UN and Soviet Union official officially responded to the invasion and students looking at the UN resolution, Truman’s speech and a transcript of the soviet radio broadcast. This lesson looks at the interpretations of Saladin, was he a cruel villain or a brilliant leader. Students read through the facts on the board or you can print of the sheet. Students then sort the information into a Venn diagram or they colour the sheet in. Students then use this information to have a go at answer 3 GCSE styled source questions.
