Christmas Scattergories Game
This is a really fun activity to play before and after Christmas with your students as they practice and build their vocabulary. Scattergories is the perfect classroom group game! You can play this game with students of literally any age or level. All words are in English.
Players attempt to create answers for each of the four categories on their game. This should be a fast moving game and there are only spaces for six words per category. The MAXIMUM they can write is six words so they have to choose them wisely. Students can be creative and flexible with their answers, but other players can challenge them!
12 games are included with different categories! You can either print out the game sheets or project them to save paper and ink. For younger students you can allow more time for them to think and write, while older students will love the challenge of the timer.
See the preview for full teacher instructions.

*In the upper left corner there’s a spot for you to punch holes in the cards so that you can then attach them with a ring for no prep use every time. Be sure to laminate if at all possible!
Object of the game:
One player tries to get his teammate to guess the word at the top of a card. The player must give clues, but he can’t use any of the Taboo words in his description. The taboo words are written beneath the word at the top of the card. Teams score points for each word successfully guessed. The team with the most points at the end of the game wins.
Beginner students should be allowed to use the TABOO words printed on the cards. This will encourage them to use new vocabulary and will help them in forming sentences to use as clues.

L’heure - French Telling Time Board Game - 24 Hour Clock
This French board game for telling time using a 24 hour clock includes 37 numbered boxes. The first player to reach box 37 wins. There are a few tricks along the way, so getting to the end isn’t always so easy! All boxes require students to say the numerical time aloud in French. Lots of repetition will really help your students get used to saying the time. Instructions on the game board remind them NOT to use vocabulary such as: et demie, et quart, moins le quart, moins vingt (etc), midi, et minuit with a 24 hour clock.
In groups of two to four, players take turns rolling a die to move their pieces forward. Spaces are numbered to keep track of which way they’re moving. There are some spaces with special instructions:
Départ - Start
Avance de 5 cases - Move forward 5 spaces
Recule de 5 cases - Move backward 5 spaces
Rejoue - Play again
Tu perds ton tour - Lose a turn
Fin - End
For an extra challenge and to extend playing time, you can tell your students that they have to land directly on the last square and answer it correctly to win.

This 90 question trivia game is loads of fun for an end of the year or semester game, a back to school activity, a sub plan or use trivia for bell ringer and icebreaker activities.
Though his product was created for French classes, it will work for any high school class since the questions are based on general knowledge and not only French related information. I’ve included several different versions (see full details below) including French only and French and English as well as powerpoint versions which will allow you to project the game and play as a class.
This trivia game is great fun as a French club activity.
This resource includes:
90 trivia cards - French only with answers
90 trivia cards - French only without answers
90 trivia cards - French only without answers - Powerpoint version
90 trivia cards - French and English with answers
90 trivia cards - French and English without answers
90 trivia cards - French and English without answers - Powerpoint version
Each trivia question is assigned a point value (the easiest are worth 1 point and the most difficult are worth 9 points).
There are a number of ways you can play this game. Here are some of the ways I like to use this game:
1. Have students play in small groups of at least 3. One student calls the questions and verifies the answers. Students keep track of their score and in the end the one with the most points wins.
2. Project the powerpoint version of the game and have students write their answers and points scored on a numbered sheet of paper. You could easily allow students to work in small groups so that they can help each other out. In the end, the group with the most points wins.
3. Classic Jeopardy: Draw the game board which is composed of boxes with points in them on the classroom's whiteboard or project it from a computer. Group students into teams. The game starts when the teacher chooses the first easy box that teams need to answer. Once the first box has been answered, the team that answered correctly can choose the next question. They can choose the hardest questions if they want additional points or they can opt for easier ones for lower amounts of points. For the final round, also known as DOUBLE JEOPARDY the points double. The game ends when all the questions on the board game have been answered and the team with the highest score wins.
Once students know how to use French indirect object pronouns they will have a great time practicing them this this hands on game: QUEL DOMMAGE!! This is an indirect object pronoun review game in which the sentences are written in the present, futur proche or passé composé tenses. Detailed instructions are included so that even when you need to have a sub stay with your classes, your students can review pronouns by playing this game.
All you have to do is print the game cards on heavy paper or card stock and cut them out. If you laminate them you'll have a no prep activity ready to go for years to come! Put all of the game pieces in a box and divide your students into small teams. Give each team gets a box of questions and a copy of the answer key.
Students must replace the underlined words in the sentences with an indirect object pronoun (me - te - lui - nous - vous - leur) and say the sentence correctly. When they are correct, they get to keep their game card. However, when they draw a QUEL DOMMAGE card they have to put all of their game cards back in the box. The student with the most game cards at the end is the winner.
Included:
5 QUEL DOMMAGE cards - You don’t have to include them all in the game if you feel there are too many.
30 numbered game cards - Black and white and color versions provided.

La Nourriture - French 20 questions game - No prep speaking activity
The game of 20 questions is a fun and effective way to practice forming French questions and in this version of the game, students can practice using partitive articles with 52 nouns which are all food and drinks. The food and drink vocabulary used in this game is the same that I’ve included in my set of 75 cards to practice French partitive, definite, and indefinite articles. These two resources are great to use together.
This game work for any level as it is written in French and English. Want a real challenge for your upper levels or immersion students? Use the French only version!
Included:
1 version with vocabulary written in French and English
1 version with vocabulary written in French only**
Have students work in small groups of 2-4 or project the game and use it as a whole class activity.
This game includes 52 words. Many of the words may be new to your students as this game is meant not only to practice forming questions, but also to build vocabulary. I like to allow my students to look at the game chart while they play until they’re somewhat familiar with the words. After they’ve played the games a few times looking at the French-English version they feel more prepared to move on to the French only version.
One student in the small group or class chooses a word on the chart. Other students ask up to 20 questions trying to guess the secret word.
The student who has chosen the secret word can answer using the following responses: OUI - NON - PARFOIS - RAREMENT - GÉNÉRALEMENT - PEUT-ÊTRE - CELA DÉPEND - PROBABLEMENT
Alternative game play:
To change up the game and to make it more challenging as well as practicing other skills, have the student who chooses the secret word describe it to others in the group. Instead of asking questions about the secret word, other students listen to the description and guess it.

French Freebie: Activity to get your students speaking
This resource is very similar to another one (also free) in which you’ll have students talking about the house, hotel, vacation, etc. of their worst nightmares. Students will talk all about the house, etc. of their dreams in this one. I like to use these resources one after the other while the content is still fresh, but the vocabulary will change dramatically when students shift from what they would love to what would give them nightmares!
This is a no prep, one page activity for intermediate to advanced level students, and the content is perfectly suitable both for primary (French immersion) and secondary curriculums. There are fifteen questions that will have them talking about, for example, the house of their dreams. This is meant to be a paired or small group activity, but it is NOT meant to just have students take turns describing what they would love. The idea is to imagine that everyone in the group is going to live in the house together. There will probably be some things that everyone agrees on, and there will certainly be things they will disagree on. When I have my students do this activity, it’s always fun to watch them debate what is and what is not important. In the end, they can agree to disagree! My students really have a good time with this activity, and I love seeing the imagination that they have!
