Hi, I work in a PRU (a pupil referal unit) in England. I run the food tech department and teach English. I love implementing drama and oracy into my lessons.

Oracy resources for food technology session based on Voice 21 talk tactic categories. Open ended pasta challenge task with opportunity to develop talk around food, recipies, ingredients, methods, nutrition and flavour combinations. Includes sentence stem cards, powerpoint, flashcards, ingredient list, planning sheet and more.
Sentence stem cards include prompts for question types: investigate, summarise, probe, challenge, clarify and build. Questions are differentiated for HA (higher ability) and LA (lower ability).
Depending on lesson time; planning and talk should be completed first and then go onto the practical lesson. Ideally, the whole group would share in feedback but you could organise the students into pairs or small groups.
I work in a PRU (a pupil referal unit) and therefore these resources were developed to be very visual and practical. The equipment flashcards are very useful for SEN and allowing the pupils to stay focused when getting organised and gathering equipment from cupboards. The recipe task card has the equipement needed on the sheet in picture form. The pics match the flashcards that you could display on the board. PLEASE LAMINATE AND USE THE EQUIPMENT FLASHCARDS.
Voice21 is still very new to me! Good luck.
A journey map relating to the WJEC Hopitality and Catering Course at KS4. Focus on unit 2 theory - the importance of nutrition and planning nutritional meals.
A Bundle of Recipes based on World Food dishes for KS3 lessons. Designed with visual pics and suitable for increasing size to A3 for SEN. Each recipe is formated with prompts for the pupils and clear labelling in regards to cooking methods, dietry requirements and method sequencing.
Each recipe unit of measure and quantity has been adapted so that the food produced is of small quantities. (We are a PRU and have budget restraints). Some of my recipes (see other resources) are vegan and gluten free.
The front cover for each bundle is included and the flashcard equipment sheets. Ideally print off and laminate the flashcards and display on your board or tables.
Please Super Snack Unit in my shop!
Some age- appropriate and not babyish discussion cards for older students (Key stage 4 included) about deciding on money matters, finance, mortgages, buying a car and paying off loans. All the things that actually interest year 11!
The year 10 cards are more cognitive and philosophical. The year 9 cards are open-ended but fun.
Please encourage the students to explain their choices in a full answer. Why do you say that/choose that?
NB. The year 11 could do some more research on money matters if you wish.
Enjoy.
Jodie.
Wingit! (or not)
A pupil friendly journey map designed to be displayed in the Food Tech room and also photocopied for each pupil’s folder. Based on the NC requirements.
The format is not A4 but a slim road map type visual.
Please see my recipe bundles and resources in my shop. I have started posting special oracy open-ended cooking task lessons. The first oracy lesson is the ‘pasta challenge’.
I work in a PRU so many of my resources are visual and SEN friendly.

For a KS3 Food Tech theory lesson. This worksheet explains and familiarises pupils with special diets - from gluten free to Halal diets. It has a couple of open questions and also some key words which require the pupils to fill in the missing letters. The symbols are clearly displayed for the pupils who may come across the icons later when cooking.
It’s Free to you.
