Literacy Prompts - Paragraphs and 5Ws

These resources were made to support children in Literacy lessons. They can be laminated and left on the tables. The first resource reminds children of the 5Ws when writing a report. They can then make sure they have answered all of the questions. the second resource is a prompt to remind children when to begin a new paragraph.

Star Writer and Pen License Display Prompts

I created these resources to add to my 'Star Writer' display board. One is a prompt telling children that the next Star Writer could be them and the other asks children if they can earn a pen license. Also on this display, I have two gold frames which I put the work of the Star Writers in. I also hang a plastic wallet full of pen licenses on this display so that the children can see them. This helps to bring handwriting to the forefront of their minds.
Religion Tally Chart

Religion Tally Chart

(0)
This worksheet could be used in a variety of lessons. We used it as part of our topic on the 'Local Area'. We wanted to know what different religions were in our community so we started with our class/school. Children used this tally chart to collect data about the different religions in each class. They could then draw a conclusion about the religions in our school.

Visit Britain Leaflets

As part of our topic on 'Modern Britain', my Year 3 class created leaflets for tourists explaining some of the things they had learnt about Britain. There are three different leaflets included in this pack. The first is a blank trifold leaflet with lines which my higher ability group used. The second is another trifold leaflet, this time with subheadings given. The third is a simpler template for lower ability children, again with subheadings given.
BFG Character Description

BFG Character Description

I created this resource to use with my Year 3 class when we were reading the BFG. The first worksheet has space for the child to design and draw their own giant with lines next to it so they can write a description. The second worksheet has a smaller box for the drawing of the giant. Next to this box is a fact file which the children can fill in and underneath this are lines for the children to write their character descriptions. The second worksheet is generic so could be used for creating a profile of any character.
Healthy Diets for Growth and Activity

Healthy Diets for Growth and Activity

(0)
In this Science lesson, children consider which foods are best for growth and muscle reparation (proteins) and which foods are best for giving us energy (carbohydrates). One of the activities asks children to sort different foods into a table, deciding whether they are best for growth or activity. They then create a diet for an athlete and a diet for a child using what they have learnt. They should be able to explain why they have chosen the foods they have as well as explaining the differences between the two diets.
Problem Solving with Number Cards

Problem Solving with Number Cards

(1)
These Maths activities were created for a problem solving lesson. They are based on similar questions found in SATs papers. The pack includes 5 differentiated activities which involve the children selecting number cards and rearranging them to create different numbers. They must use logic and reasoning skills and show an understanding of place value. I was very happy with this lesson and the children enjoyed it too. =)
Stone Age Problems

Stone Age Problems

I created these resources while teaching the Year 3 history topic, 'The Stone Age'. The aim of this lesson was to be able to identify problems and challenges faced by Stone Age people. During the first part of this lesson, the class were split into boys and girls. Each group explored the school grounds with an adult. Scattered around the premises were Problem Cards (included in this pack) explaining various dilemmas that Stone Age men and women would have dealt with. The children loved this activity and when they returned to class, they were able to discuss the similarities and differences between the lives of Stone Age men and Stone Age women. Most children then wrote a diary entry from the point of view of a Stone Age person, explaining the problems they had faced, how it would have made them feel and how they would have dealt with them. The lower ability children used the other resource in this pack and they began by sorting Stone Age problems and Modern Day problems.
Land Use Pictogram

Land Use Pictogram

As part of a Year 3 Geography Topic on 'Our Local Area', I took my class on a walk around the local streets. Whilst walking, most children used a key to colour the buildings on a map, identifying the land use (e.g. commercial, residential, educational, recreational etc.). However, this wasn't suitable for the lower ability children in my class so I gave them pictures of different buildings and they had to tally how many of each type of building they saw. When they returned to class, they could then cut out pictures of the different buildings in order to make their own pictogram. These pictures and the pictogram template are included in this pack.

Differentiated Data Investigations

This Maths pack includes a range of data investigations for different ability groups. This is a great Statistics lesson. Each group of children is given a question to answer. They will think about how they can collect and record their data before presenting it in different ways using bar charts, pictograms, line graphs etc. The questions are included as well as explanations of each activity. I have also included tally chart templates for the lower ability groups.

Literacy and Maths Targets on Stars

(0)
This pack contains a range of Literacy and Maths targets/objectives on yellow and blue stars respectively. I originally created this resource for a 'Reach for the Stars' display for a Year 3 class. The children read the targets and knew what they had to aim for throughout the year.

Observations of Rocks Table

I created this worksheet to be used as part of the Year 3 Science topic 'Rocks and Soils'. Children had to describe each rock using a range of scientific vocabulary which was provided. They then had to think about the properties of each rock and suggest uses for them.
