This is a trapdoor activity to get your students to practise their speaking skills. It is played in pairs. Each person chooses an option for each sentence in their head. One starts reading the text and trying to find out the other’s choices. Each time they make a choice, the partner nods or shakes his/her head. If the choice is correct the person continues until they get it wrong. When they get it wrong, the other person has a go. The aim of the game is to finish first. I did this with my Yr10 students and they enjoyed it a lot! Enjoy and don’t forget to feedback!

I have tried this with Yr9 and Yr10 and the students really enjoyed it. Print all photos and display around the room. I have taken these photos myself. Real French Authentic resources. Then give students the quiz questions (35 questions). Questions are differentiated: one all in French, one half French half English and one all in English. You will also find the answers to the quiz. Enjoy and don't forget to feedback! :-)

My Yr 9 came to me the other day and started talking about "parkour" after watching the movie District B-13. I decided to do a PowerPoint to explain its origin, meaning...I have also attached a comprehension worksheet to do with it. Would suit able Y9, KS4 or A levels. Some reading, speaking (pair work), listening (movie trailer). Something a bit different! Enjoy and don't forget to feedback :-)

Here is a running dictation in Spanish I prepared for my Yr10 after my summer holidays of 2014. The idea is to print the word file, cut it in strips and stick it around the room. Print 2 copies for big class. The students work in pairs. You give them a time limit, maybe 1 minute to start with during which one student comes to the piece of text to read and try to remember what he/she can. Then he/she goes back to write down what he/she can remember whilst the other person goes to read and try to remember more. They keep swapping around. Once you think they are more or less done, you can correct with the PowerPoint presentation. I get my students to underline/tick every word they get right and write what they are missing in a different colour. After that, there are some comprehension questions about the holidays followed by some creative writing on what happened next. I have also included what really happened next to compare with what they come up with. Enjoy and please feedback! :-)

Claim the parcel translation game Activity for revising different verb tenses and topics from new GCSE AQA books. You have a table with different verbs tenses/sentences and project it on your interactive whiteboard/wall. In groups of 2 (max 3) they write the answer in the Spanish to one of the parcels/boxes on their mini white boards, come to you at the front of the class (you check) and if they have the answer correct they can claim the parcel/box. You write their names/team name on a post it notes and stick it over the parcel/box on the interactive whiteboard. Then, no one can do this parcel/box anymore. The winner is the group to have most parcels/boxes claimed at the end. Works well as end of module revision or translation practice. Don't forget to feedback!
