This 30-word wordsearch was created to support a Grade 5 class who had read the wonderful story of Fantastic Mr Fox by Roald Dahl.
The wordsearch puzzle, like wordsearches in general, was a great task to include in their learning to help them recall information about the story, reinforce spellings, encourage discussion about events, and to prepare them for a comprehension activity.

Wordsearches are great for pattern recognition, reinforcing spelling, encouraging discussion and drawing lines practice!
These worksheets have been created for CS Education week, for the Hour of Code, but can be used for a computing activity throughout the year.
Students as young as Year 4 (8-year olds) can be given this to work on (and maybe younger!)
I like the CS Unplugged activities but have remixed the worksheets so they’re shorter and more ‘student-ready’.
I have also added MS Excel versions for one of the image representation tasks. This is great to use particularly when differentiating.
(The worksheets are available on another account which also belongs to me.)

You must know a fan or two of the brilliant Tom Gates series…

This cryptogram / decode-the-message activity will see the kids reveal a quote from a recent interview of the legendary Sir David Attenborough.
The activity requires the kids to reveal each letter one at a time by considering what the hidden / partially-hidden words could be. Two letters have already been revealed and a clue of ‘sustainability’ has been given on the sheet.
Once the kids reveal the full quote / message, they need to then name the person who said it… so don’t give it away beforehand!

Learning about flowers or Spring?
Want to acknowledge ‘Plant a Flower Day’ which is celebrated on March 12th?
Or just have a love for flowers in general?
Grab this free wordsearch and have your kids find familiar flowers in the grid and learn the names of new ones. As usual they’ll also correct and reaffirm spellings, as well as exercise pattern recognition skills.
Why not extend the activity:
open a discussion as to which flowers they have seen / have in their garden
name different books / songs / movies which feature flowers
ask them to draw a sketch of some flowers
run a flower-crafting session
reiterate the importance of flowers (Science and well-being)
decide which flower they would like to plant and grow in the classroom or at home
Enjoy :)

A word search for queries which made it to a ‘US Top Google search queries 2020’ list!
BUT this is more than a word search activity!
Extend the activity by questioning / discussing further e.g.
-Get the kids to share whether they have indeed Google-searched the same queries or what is most commonly searched in their homes.
-Ask the kids to look at the queries which they do not recognise and get them to find out about them.
-Encourage discussions as to what insights they can infer about the interests of the US population.
-Challenge them to guess the Top 10 by putting a star next to 10 of the terms. See how many of the kids get all 10 correct! What assumptions can be made about the revealed Top 10?
(Included is a text file of the ‘Top 10’ )
