A lesson that focuses on prefixes with a specific focus on the prefix un-. Included are all the resources required to run the lesson, including a presentation with examples and questions followed by three differentiated worksheets. This lesson is also useful for dictionary practise as it gets children to identify the definitions of different words.

A simple activity that focuses on adverbs and being able to pick from 2 or 3 adverbs to decide which describes the action in the sentence most appropriately.

A diamond 9 activity that gets children to decide which synonyms for walk are the strongest verbs and which are the weakest before justifying their selection. Included is the original word and eight other synonyms, with the activity being useful as a starter as well as building up vocabulary for children by showing them other examples.

Five sets of lessons that try to inspire children to create independent writing. All credit due to Pobble with this then being taken and created as a lesson presentation and resources with ideas that children can then take and write about. Also included are some of my own word mats that children can use to support them with ideas. The prompts used for these are The Invisible Man which can be found on Pobble on the 13th May, Air Hotel 3000 on the 27th January, The Builders on the 2nd July, Shipwreck on the 29th June and Unwanted Visitors on 28th February.

A lesson/ two lessons based on writing and punctuating direct speech. The lesson is based on the mini story of Geri's game that is shown on Literacy Shed with the key element of the lesson focussing on being able to describe what the two characters may say between one another and ensuring this is punctuated properly.

A word bank sheet that children can have in front of them/ on display to help them with their writing. Included are a range of conjunctions for a range of features including: to add to something, to sequence, as a consequence, to contrast, to offer certainty or condition, to define, to sum up, to offer examples, reasons and time.

20 different writing activities that link to content from the Year 6 unit for Living Things and their Habitats to support the development of using different conjunctions in writing as well as thinking carefully about some of the knowledge and how they can apply the conjunctions appropriately using what they know about the subject area. There are 20 days worth of activities, with each day having a different link to knowledge from the unit. Each day includes three different slides that follow the I do, we do, you do model. However, it doesn’t need to be that each day you follow the model and that you may just model and then get pupils to do the you do or leave it up as pupils enter the classroom for them to then have a go at the because, but, so. The idea is that it is short focused writing, with the full session lasting 15 to 20 minutes if using all three elements and shorter where all three elements aren’t used. Slides can be used as a pick up and go and don’t need to be done in the order set out.

A differentiated set of activities that requires children to define words before considering and applying the context they have been used in. Included is an extract from Chapter One of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire to read through as a class. This can then be used as a discussion point and modelling before children then go off and work on their activities.

A list of ideas for planning cross-curricular lessons based around a history topic. Included are ideas of how this could be linked to English, D.T, Art, Science, History, Geography, Music and Computer Science. Areas included so far: Battle of Britain Nottingham - A local history study

Activities that work on children being able to identify adverbs in a sentence. These have been created for LA or SEN children to help them build their understanding of adverbs.

An activity that requires children to decide between an -ed word and -ing word for each sentence to decide which makes the most sense as a non-finite clause.

A sheet with key grammatical terms (select terms rather than all) that may come up in the KS2 GPS test that children can use to remember them. Included is a definition and some examples of these to try and support understanding.

An activity based around -oa for children. Included are cards with all the letters of the alphabet and the oa phoneme where children can then practise seeing what words they can create when blending sounds together. Recommended to print two sets of the letter cards.
