French - Black History Month (Mois De L'Histoire Des Noirs)

(0)
Two-page French activity worksheet for Black History Month, presenting and drilling vocabulary and phrases useful to discussion of the topic in French, and introducing the related events in the French calendar (la Journée nationale des mémoires de la traite, de l’esclavage et de leurs abolitions, and le Mois des cultures d’Afrique). There is a short introductory reading passage with a glossary of key words, as well as a comprehension quiz and two vocabulary-driven activities; all texts aim to activate general reading and context / gist skills beyond the listed vocab. The level is appropriate for KS4 pre-GCSE groups (Years 9-11, ages 14-16), but would also be useful for proficient KS3 groups covering society-based topics in class. Great as homework or as a cover lesson worksheet. An answer key is included, so the worksheet can be used by non-subject specialist educators as well.

Intermediate French : Primates and Humans Project Booklet

(0)
One of a series of intermediate-level booklets designed to expand students’ vocabulary and sentence structures, and get them thinking and speaking about a range of topics in French. They have links to wider citizenship and global / current affairs issues, so make for good cross-subject connections if you want to involve non-language teaching colleagues. This worksheet / topic booklet focuses on the relationship between humans and other primates, and the importance of conservation. It’s suitable for a good Year 10/11 GCSE group or a first year A-level group. It forms a short unit of project-based work that we would spend 2-3 weeks working through with classes, leading up to a short spoken presentation to assess understanding at the end. Sections include: Vocabulary (with sample sentences for each entry) Useful questions in French for conversational practice A reading comprehension to show the vocabulary in context A dialogue featuring two young people discussing the project themes A range of practice exercises, including gapfill and translation There is a “for the teachers” section at the end of the document, including answers to all the activities, so it’s suitable to be used by non-French specialist teachers too, or as cover work.
