A set of 2 lessons surrounding pattern. The children design a pattern and practice using motifs and other skills. This then leads to them designing their own, in this case a locker label.
A combination of various resources with a few edits, taking you through the process of multiplying by powers of 10. The final 2 slides show green, orange and red questions and answers to work through. Children can choose which column works best for them. Year 5 lesson also with SEN sheet labelled ‘Lime questions’.
A template for children to complete their own Virtual School timetable. This was used for an activity after a unit on time covered through virtual school during lockdown and school closure.
This lesson pack contains the following:
A PPT explaining what time zones are and why we need them
An engaging and exciting task involving plane tickets and working out various time zones from this
A second lesson with the above but different plane tickets. I used this to re-cap/consolidate the learning as we had yet to fully grasp the concept in our year group.
Gears and Pulleys - 6 or 7 week project.
THERE ARE NO LESSON PLANS INCLUDED BUT LESSONS ARE VERY SELF EXPLANATORY AND EXPLAINED INCREDIBLY CLEARLY BELOW.
This lesson pack includes the following lessons:
Lesson 1 - ‘Cold Design’
This lesson gives the children the opportunity to design something based on their favourite game and gain a basic undestand of gears, pulleys and levers. At the moment the big hype is ‘Among Us’ so a main focus is this across these lessons. However, it also gives options for those who have not played it/are uninterested in this
Lesson 2 - Pulleys
This lesson gives the children a secure understanding of what pulleys are and why they are important. It also includes instructions on how to make a simple pulley in the classroom. (Practical lesson)
Lesson 3 - Gears
This lesson gives the children a secure understanding of what gears are and why they are important. It also includes instructions on how to make gears in the classroom using simple and cheap resources. These will be saved to be used for their final products.
The remaining lessons are covered on one PowerPoint as they were carried out as a ‘DT Day’. However, it can also be split across 3 or 4 separate lessons.
Lesson 4 - Final Design
This lesson is where the children design their final product and explain what its use will be.
Lesson 5 and 6 - Creating the Product
This lesson gives a recap of what we have covered so far (mini-plenary). Then, it goes onto the children creating the final product from their design. This may go across two lessons, depending on ability and time constraints.
Lesson 7 - Evaluating the Product
This is where the children can give a final evaluation on their product; strength, weaknesses, targets.
A work booklet is also attached to go alongside the final three/four lesson
A set of lesson understanding structures and how to make them. This is based on the topic of ‘Stig of the Dump’ and designing useful product to help ‘Stig’ in his ‘Dump’. At the end of the unit they can attempt to make bridges using spaghetti (instructions attached) and use weight to determine the strongest bridge made.
A KS2 set of lessons based on Ancient Greek Mythology of the minotaur. The children design their Minotaur and Theseus and create a moving part attached to it as a lever controlling one part of the characters. For example; the horns, the sword.
They then perform a script that they have written in their English lessons as a shadow puppet performance using their creations.
This lesson follows with the objective from White Rose, Year 5 - Summer Block 1 - Decimals - Adding decimals with a different number of decimal places.
This resource includes:
A Green sheet - LA/WTS ARE
An Orange sheet - MA/EXS ARE
A Red sheet - HA/GDS ARE
A Pokemon information table (name, height, weight in m and kg)
The children need to find specific characters from the Pokemon table and answer the questions accordingly. A fun lesson with adding decimal with a different number of decimal places. Definitely captures the attention of those with low motivation and independence! Each sheet increases with difficulty through larger numbers and more carrying.
A unit of 5+ lessons covering:
Rhythm and Pulse
Body Percussion
Notation
History of Music
Improvise and Composing Music
Some of these lessons you may find best suited to split across two, depending on the ability and age of your children as well as time restraints.
This lesson, generally, follows the first section of the Understanding Christianity unit 2B.3 - People of God, looking at Moses’ life. This includes a PPT and a short task set on the final slides as well as a worksheet.
A unit based on creating appealing moving mechanical pieces of work. This particular was based around a topic of Earth and Space. There are some resources in here, for the childrens’ research purposes, that are not my own but online resources to support the lessons. The rest is completely created myself.
Objectives across 3 or 4 lessons covered:
I can use my research to inform my design.
I can draw cross-sectional and exploded diagrams to show further detail in my design.
To create a collection of appealing moving mechanical animals in space models that will captivate peoples interest.
I can use information booklets to research animals in space.
I can gather ideas and explain how they move to inform my design.
I can gather ideas and explain their appearance and position in space to inform my design.
This is a worksheet meant as a recap for children that have already covered the following area of fractions in their Maths learning. This was used to help consolidate the Year 5 children’s learning as well as give depth and support to those who needed it. This lesson covers the following:
Equivalent Fractions
Mixed numbers to improper fractions
improper fractions to mixed numbers
adding 2 or more fractions
adding mixed numbers
This includes a worksheet (with answers) differentiated by ability, from working towards, working at and working above age related expectations. Purely arithmetic questions, no problem solving.
There is also a PPT that supports this which is free on my shop.
A KS2 lesson carrying out a comparative fair test with hot drinks, which material keeps the drinks the hottest for longest.
The PPT is very self-explanatory along with worksheets to support.
Differentiated worksheets from working towards (Green), expected (Orange) and greater depth (Red). Adding 3 fractions together. Answers included. Easily edited if needed. Word document and PDF version. Year 5 - Follows White Rose scheme and National Curriculum.
