Getting children to chat to each other on the first day back is easy with 'Find a friend who..' I love watching my little ones play this on their first morning. Who is shy? Who can't stay on task? It stamps 'we are interested in one another and like to communicate' on my class from the very first moment. Top Tip Laminate and use again the next year. Find a problem? Reciprocal Reading Starter Kit- all you need to get going!

(0)
Reciprocal Reading (RR) is a fantastic approach which can deepen a child’s ability to comprehend and decode a text. The ultimate goal of using RR during a Guided Reading session is to have the children lead the learning themselves with the adult serving simply as a facilitator or not present at all! This pack features 4 characters. Each character represents a skill from RR and has a colour attached to it to enable children to quickly distinguish between the 4 taught skills. This kit is not an exhaustive one- it features the basics needed to get started with RR and contains 4 resources (1 for each skill) which are also available in the individual skill kits and Mega Bundle resources as a taster- the Mega Bundle also features some of the basic resources as a PowerPoint. You don’t need these resources to start RR but they can be used to enhance the sessions and add structure. PLEASE NOTE the language in this pack uses UK English. A US English version is also available in my store. Included in this ‘Starter Pack’ are- 4 skill cards featuring the characters and their colours- these could be used as flash cards, focus wall posters made into headbands. 4 skill cards which can be folded to stand up in front of the child taking on the roll in the session. 4 skill posters featuring the characters and their colours- these posters are scaffold with questions or sentence starters the person taking on the roll in the session could use. These could be used as flash cards or focus wall posters. 4 mini skill cards- as above but small enough for children to hold or have stuck inside a book/ attached to headbands or note rings. 2 die featuring the beginning letter of the 4 key skills in the matching colour and with their characters. One dice features has 2 blank sides which can be written on with a particular phrase/ question you would like to use- top tip- laminate before construction so that these can be wiped off and changed depending on the sessions needs. From the Questioner Kit- Open and Closed Question prompt cards From the Clarifier Kit- ‘In my own words’ activity From the Predictor Kit- ‘Word Pop’ activity From the Summariser Kit- ‘SUM it up’ support poster None of my packs include worksheets- all activities are intended to be laminated and used within the session- if the child produces work you feel would be useful for evidence then why not photocopy the activity? To find out more about RR please read my blog post at http://year2tastic.blogspot.co.uk/ Find a problem? Why not contact me and let me work the kinks out for you? Many thanks, Laura Xx
