A workbook to support ‘Odd One Out’, the documentary about Jesy Nelson’s experience with cyberbullies and trolls. The documentary is available on iPlayer (60 mins) We stop for discussion at various times and pupils are given time to complete the notes sections.

A word search to introduce aspects of SRE/Drugs/Teenage pregnancy I use this as a lesson starter and as an introduction to a unit of work for Year 11 looking at how alcohol and other substances can affect choices and sexual behaviour; how the media can influence body image; STI's and how to protect against them; the use of various forms of contraception; the consequences of teenage pregnancy; the effect of lifestyle choices on a foetus and issues around consent. The workbook containing a number of activities for Year 11 pupils will be available in the next few days. There will also be an accompanying PPT

A PPT with activities/discussion points for ‘To a Daughter Leaving Home’ and 'Poem for my Sister’ Includes worksheet to help with analysis using POETIC Also includes a typical exam-style question which can be ‘timed’ once analysis is complete.

A number of worksheets (including extract activity) which can be made into a mini booklet to help pupils analyse the change in Scrooge by Stave 5. Looks at language, writing detailed explanations/analysis and creating PEA/PEE chains. I created this as groundwork for an end of term assessment which will ask how and why Scrooge changes throughout the novel.

A double page worksheet (best copied onto A3) to show GCSE pupils how to compare and contrast poems using the Edexcel suggested mnemonic 'PETER'. Pupils can analyse each poem in terms of the PETER strands and then write an essay comparing and contrasting the two poems using compare/contrast vocabulary. La Belle Dame Sans Merci and A Child to his Sick Grandfather used but any poems can be inserted. Also includes the mnemonic sheet

A powerpoint to help analyse the poem 'Poem for My Sister' by Liz Lochhead. Each slide has a series of tasks for pupils to complete to help them to understand the metaphor used by Lochhead. A short written task is also included.

PPT and worksheets to prepare pupils for unseen poetry comparison. Poems used are 1939 and On Finding a Letter to Mrs Vickers on the Pennine Way. Tasks included on PPT Comparison note sheet uses ‘POETIC’ as an analysis tool but could easily be replaced with ‘PETER’ or any other mnemonic. Final essay task asks pupils to use their notes to compare/contrast the ways in which the poets present their ideas.

Pupils can annotate The Prologue as a group and then write their own version. Good link to dramatic irony and why this is important in the play. Also a film strip activity where frames are illustrated to match pairs of lines from The Prologue. Ideal for display whilst studying Shakespeare. Easily copied larger for bigger film strips.

A number of resources including PPT, Task sheets, voting slips, returning officer speech and lesson plan to enable you to hold a mock election. Reinforces vocabulary for this unit of citizenship and allows pupils to see the 'process'. Task sheets are used to split the class into four political parties. They then work collaboratively to create a party political broadcast. May take more than one lesson

A worksheet where pupils practice making PEE/PEA Chains to form paragraphs. They need to find the POINT and colour match it with the correct piece of evidence and explanation/analysis and then write it up as a paragraph in their books. There is one piece of evidence leftover. They have to work out which one it is and then write the POINT and the EXPLANATION.
