Having originally entered into teaching through Teach First, which I completed in a challenging London Borough with a personal grading of Outstanding, I have since worked as a KS3 coordinator and am now a Second in Department (History and Government & Politics) at a leading international school. Every resource I share has been taught in my own classroom. I don't advocate them as the finished pieces, but I strive for innovation and welcome feedback to continue to improve my own practice!

How does social class affect voting behaviour?

(0)
A lesson that looks in depth at the impact of social class on voting behaviour. The PowerPoint presentation covers the following areas: A definition of key terms on voting behaviour (not comprehensive, however a good start for the unit) A comprehensive definition of what is meant by ‘class’ An evaluation of the extent to which class affects voting behaviour A short consideration of the context that has affected the impact of class on voting behaviour more recently Alongside the presentation, there is a PDF of an analysis of the BBC Great British Class Survey from 2013, to add complexity to modern considerations of class. There is also a table that details the AB, C1, C2 and DE breakdown of class as well as a mock-up source question through which students are directed (in the lesson) to identify the arguments for and against the importance of social class in voting behaviour.

An introductory lesson to the GCE Edexcel course ‘Lancastrians, Yorkists and Henry VII’. This is a gentle introduction to the unit that provides guidance on social stratification and the context to the period. The lesson contains a well-designed PowerPoint resource, as well as a detailed hand out that goes beyond the necessities of the specification to expand student knowledge.

The seventh lesson for the first depth study on the ‘Lancastrians, Yorkists and Henry VII’ A-level course for Edexcel. The lesson provides comprehensive coverage of the course content, as well as going beyond the specification to provide stretch for high-attaining students. It is strongly encouraged that this resource is used in conjunction with the flipped learning workbooks also uploaded to TES. This lesson expects that students already know the content regarding Henry IV’s invasion of Scotland and Scrope’s rebellion. This will have occurred through flipped learning. The PowerPoint is directive for learning, rather than a content repository.

Political Parties - The Labour Party (Edexcel specification)

A comprehensive lesson resource looking at the current standing of the Labour Party as well as its historical and ideological groundings. This lesson also incorporates a consideration of populism as an area of consideration to apply to the most recent leadership of Jeremy Corbyn.
