This is a full differentiated lesson based on the new AQA (B4.1) SOW but can be used for others. The lesson starts with a short video on blood components to incite interest. There is then a short talk on blood plasma, RBCs, WBC and platelets - students fill in a table as you progress through the slides. Students then apply their knowledge to a differentiated question grid challenge, and self/peer mark. The practical is based on students using microscopes to observe blood components (microscopes and preprepared slides required) and answering questions. A stretch activity is included for the more able, again answers are included to facilitate self/peer marking. The plenary consists of students reflecting upon their progress against the learning objectives, peers can select one another to share answers.

A full differentiated lesson based on the new AQA (B4.9) SOW. The lesson covers environments and their relation to transpiration. The lesson the progresses to discuss photosynthesis, temperature, humidity (etc.) and their impact on transpiration. A video is used to introduce how plants are adapted to hot, dry climates and mechanisms of controlling water loss are introduced. A differentiated question grid is then used to apply student learning and conduct AFL. The use of the potometer is then discussed prior to another video and a final past paper question. The plenary is based on the students reflecting upon their progress against the learning objectives. All answers to written tasks are incorporated into the slides and timers are included to promote pace.

The lesson includes video, a demonstration using a bell jar and a simple practical exercise where students observe an increase in CO2 in expired breath using lime water (can be done as a demo). Homework is also included or can be deployed as a stretch activity. PowerPoint animation and timers are included to promote pace and self/peer mediated correction of answers.

It then focuses on athletes foot and rose black spot - red font is used to indicate where students should take notes. The lesson outlines key information relating to the digestive system and enzymes, students fill in a table handout during the presentation of these slides. The table is then self/peer marked to ensure key information is present. The practical is then introduced (a brief demonstration may be beneficial here) to and conducted by the students. Those who finish in good time are prompted to draw a graph and identify the variables within the experiment. An extra stretch is based on students suggesting improvements to the techniques used during the experiment. This is followed by a discussion of results and ‘what should of been seen’. The plenary is based on students reflecting on their progress against the learning objectives, and sharing this with the class.
