What problems did William I face?

(10)
Students are presented with problems that William faced after the Battle of Hastings. They use their planners or coloured cards to vote on their suggested solutions. Nice set up to a sequence of lessons on Norman control over England. There is a lesson plan attached should you need it. Please note the powerpoint contains animations so you should view it in slide-show mode. Feedback and comments are much appreciated. :-)

Students discover how important religion was during the Middle Ages by gathering up information. I stick the information sheets around the classroom (and some outside!) and students have to go track down information and write it in their books. Bloom's taxonomy in indicated on the slides. This lesson looks into medieval ideas of heaven and hell using Doom paintings. The main task involves student's looking closely at the image using a secret picture style task. This lesson can stimulate good discussion and questions can be used to solidify understanding. Comments are appreciated.

How did people react to 9/11?

Continuing to build up the September 11th resources on TES, this lesson explores people's reactions. The lesson takes student&'s through the reactions of: the public, the president, the press and film makers. I use the first 10 minutes of the 2006 film 'World Trade Centre' during this lesson. Clips can be found on Youtube. This lesson also includes a timeline activity which could be used in isolation. Comments are appreciated! :-) (911, 9-11)

Why did people vote for Hitler? Lower ability

(2)
Students explore the reasons why people voted for Hitler. The first task asks students to answer some basic questions and they can follow it up by creating an overview spider-diagram. Despite the inaccuracies, I show parts of Rise of Evil to demonstrate the steps taken by Hitler. This is currently available on Youtube in parts. Comments are appreciated.

Why are historians like detectives?

(2)
This lesson should be used to introduce the subject of history. If you can acquire a bag and the actual items (or similar) this lesson can be really effective. It should allow students to see how historians work by piecing together clues to form a bigger picture. Comments are appreciated :-)
