Upper, Middle and Lower Course - Rivers

This lesson was designed for a high ability Y6 class who were exploring a topic on Rivers and Flooding. It would be suitable for KS3 students also. In this lesson students explore the key features of the upper, middle and lower course. You will need to print off a large versions of the powerpoint slides so that students can use them on their information hunt. My students really enjoyed this lesson. Hopefully it will save you some time. All images acquired through a search engine filtered to labelled for re-use. Enjoy :-)

AQA Law Taster Session

This is a taster session designed to give students an understanding of Law at A-level. It was designed for AQA but the slide containing information about content and exams could easily be altered. The activities explore types of crime and police powers. The second to last slide explores further study and career pathways and students end the session by discussing areas of debate within the law.

American West GCSE Edexcel Literacy Mat

This literacy mat can be used to support students throughout their GCSE. It demonstrates the big picture of the American West and includes key people and events. It contains lots of key information and advice which will help develop independence. This could even be blown up for display. I know that many department budgets are restrained so I have included a black and white version too.

Origins of the Cold War Revision Tarsia Puzzle

This Tarsia puzzle covers the theme of the Origings of the Cold War. Great for 9-1 GCSE revision and intervention sessions. Made for Edexcel Paper 2 Topic 1 but I'm sure it fits other exam board specs. A Tarsia puzzle requires students to match up sides of triangles to form a hexagonal shape. They are brilliant for revision and get students to think hard. I use these at the starts of ends of lessons and they can take 10-20 minutes depending on your class's confidence in the material. All materials are provided here including student instructions, student puzzle pieces and teacher answers. All images have been acquired through a search engine filtered to labelled for re-use. Enjoy!

American West GCSE Revision and Enrichment Pack

These resources can be used to aid revision and course enrichment for your GCSE students. There's a mixed bag covering a range of topics. The two knowledge tests are really good for securing precise knowledge which is what Edexcel seem to want in their new reformed GCSE. I teach to Edexcel spec but I am sure that the information crosses into other exam boards. Images have been acquired through a search engine filtered to "labelled for re-use". This lesson focuses on Edward VI’s reign. In particular it explores fall of Somerset. In doing so, students start to explore the differences between Somerset and Northumberland. It has been planned for the AQA History A-level 1C which explores the Tudors: England, 1485-1603. It could easily be adapted to suit any of the A-level specifications. The resources are designed for one lesson lasting one hour. My students all have their own copies of Tillbrook’s The Tudors: England 1485-1603 by Oxford University Press, this is sometimes referred to. You will require textbooks for this lesson! Textbooks used were the white and blue Dawson textbook and the brown Edexcel endorsed textbook (new 2013 edition). This lesson encourages students to explore change and continuity across three time periods: Roman, Middle Ages and the Renaissance. Students use the focus of hospitals to recap ideas about treatment, doctors, medicines and change and continuity. The homework is designed to practice for Q1 of the Edexcel Medicine Through Time paper. All resources provided for an hour's lesson, great for independent learning and discussion. You will need to change teacher name to your own and the due date of HW. Images acquired through a search engine filtered to "labelled for re-use"

Stuart Economy: Cloth Trade and London Expansion - Double Lesson Pack for A-level

There are some aspects to the new Edexcel A-level course covering Stuart Britain which are a little dull. These two lessons are designed the make the content a little more engaging! In lesson one, students work as candidates for the apprentice to pitch an idea for a cloth trade business. It's brilliant for independent learning! The second lesson explores the economic importance of London during the 17th century. Images have been acquired through a search engine filtered to "labelled for re-use". The homework extract is taken from Yale University's Open Courses. Any questions please do contact me via twitter! My students loved these resources and I hope you do too!

Was defeat of the Spanish Armada, England's finest hour?

In this lesson students take on the viewpoint of the famous Tudor and Stuart historian: David Starkey. Students use their own knowledge and a provided card sort to challenge Starkey's view. This lesson was designed for KS3 but I have used variants of it for GCSE and even A-level. I absolutely love this lesson and so do the students. I always try to sell the idea that we are going to post our responses to Starkey in attempt to get a reply. All images acquired through a search engine filtered to "labelled for re-use".
