Students answer the questions within the booklet in exactly the same way as the actual exam. Section A TV News, Section B News Websites. The mark scheme for the mock exam in Word and PDF format. Again, this is based very closely on previous mark schemes provided by WJEC. A PowerPoint that walks the students through the exam, using the mark scheme to show them the sort of things they could have included in their responses. This mock exam uses a YouTube video of BBC's Newsround (link embedded within the mark scheme and PowerPoint). However, the exam could be modified to work with a different news programme.

Zombie Attack! Times-Table Card Game

Zombie Attack! Times-Table Card Game

(0)
This simple zombie-themed card game has been developed to help make learning times-tables fun! The times-table facts have been divided into three sets of colour-coded cards based upon their level of difficulty. Students choose or are allocated their difficulty level and given a set time to try and destroy all 12 of the zombies in their set. They do this by giving the correct answer to the times-table sum shown on the card, causing the 'zombie' to be discarded. If they get it wrong, the zombie returns to the deck to be encountered again and again until it is destroyed - unless the time runs out! A simple, fun way to get students revising the times tables facts. Also, great for differentiation as the teacher can set the difficulty level and time. The 36 cards are provided on A4 sheets so will need printing back to back, or gluing together. An instruction sheet written for students is also provided. The 1 x, 2 x, 5 x, and 10 x tables are not included as the game is designed to improve recall of the more challenging time table facts.

GCSE Media News Selection and Construction

A hands on practical lesson in PowerPoint form ideal for teaching the principle of news selection and construction. This has proven to be one of my most successful lessons in enabling students to grasp some complex theory by working as editorial teams to select from a list of REAL events to construct a front page. Their product is then compared to the real thing! This also enables them to revise their knowledge of key terms including: Masthead, Headline, Standfirst, Secondary Story, Caption, Copy and Splash. This is ideal preparation for the WJEC GCSE Media Section A News exam.

This has been used with my two year 11 exam groups, with the questions based on previous exams. You also receive a word document containing the actual exam questions from 2014 to 2016, with predictions on what will come up this year based on these past papers.
