4 different coloured poker chips e.g. red, blue, orange and green You hand out the blank chips to students and you keep the chips with the varied questioning starts on them The question starts have been taken from a question matrix It is up to you, you can use them as a differentiation tool, but the idea is that you take a red one for example, from your own pile and then look for an answer from a student who has a blank red poker chip. And so on. It's as simple as that!

These are the PowerPoints that I rolled out to my school as part of my role as whole school Literacy co-ordinator. The task on each PowerPoint should last about 25 minutes; the remainder of the lesson spent reading for enjoyment. Within each PowerPoint you have a differentiated task for year 7,8 &9.
