KS3 Creative Writing One-Offs
A series of resources aimed at developing writing practice. Stimulus images from A Midsummer Night's Dream and Victorian England are the focus for two lessons while a lesson exploring tension and skills needed for the written element of English Language paper 1 make up the other two resources. Suitable for a high ability year 7 or mixed ability year 8 group.
Life as a Soldier WW1 KS3
An exploratory lesson on life as a soldier during World War 1 with summarising and pair work activities. Would support contextual background for war poetry or for the novel 'War Horse'. Suitable for a year 8 KS3 class.
Dulce et Decorum Est KS3 WW1 Poetry Analysis
A pair of lessons that focus on language devices and performance using the poem 'Dulce et Decorum Est' by Wilfred Owen. The first lesson explore the poem through freeze frame activities and group work while the second lesson develops analysis of language devices within the poem with a modelled example. Originally used with a mixed ability year 8 group, this would also work with a high ability KS3 year 7 group and could supplement a war poetry scheme or as a standalone pair of lessons. Prior knowledge of simile, metaphor and emotive language is expected.

A bundle consisting of a 14 lesson scheme of work for A Midsummer Night's Dream and additional analysis lessons on the Witches' Recipe from Macbeth and Shylock. The scheme is suitable for mixed ability year 8 or a high ability year 7 group while the Merchant of Venice lesson offers additional challenge.
An Inspector Calls Act 1 Revision
5 lessons of activities to supplement study of An Inspector Calls. Students will need copies of the text. This would suit those just encountering the text or as additional revision activities for a GCSE class.
KS3 Frankenstein Extract Analysis
Four lessons focusing on analysis of Philip Pullmans' play adaptation of Frankenstein. The first two lessons focus on improving essay writing skills while the fourth lesson is a feedback and forward style task. The third lesson is given over to timed writing. This can be used to supplement an existing SoW on the play or as a series of lessons treated as extract analysis in preparation for English Language comprehension. Suitable for a mixed ability year 8 group.

A lesson based around exploring and analysing the poem ‘If’ by Rudyard Kipling. Suitable as an introductory lesson to the poem and for a higher ability year 10 class familiar with poetic techniques.
IGCSE KS4 Literature Poetry Exam Process
3 lessons that explain the exam process, how to answer a question and planning an answer for the IGCSE poetry comparison exam question. Suitable as a revision aid or to supplement an existing scheme of work, the powerpoint includes model paragraphs and longer responses, scaffolds and a tablemat resource that can be printed on A3 and used as further scaffolding. Useful for years 10 and 11.
KS3 Romeo and Juliet Exploring Oxymoron (Act 3, Scene 2)

KS3 Y8 Exploring Effective Imagery
A lesson which aims to develop student understanding of what makes imagery effective in creative writing using the short story, ‘All Summer in a Day’ by Ray Bradbury. The lesson is scaffolded with discussion tasks and writing frames.
Prior knowledge of the text is required.
Suitable for a higher ability Year 7 group or a mixed ability Year 8 group.
Year 9 Gothic Scheme of Work (Writing Focused)
A 6 week scheme (15 lessons) of learning that explores Gothic conventions and a range of extracts from notable works. The unit is writing focused and builds awareness of setting and characterisation. There are additional and optional library resources that focuses on a reading of Jekyll and Hyde (text not supplied).
Suitable for a mixed ability Year 9 class.
KS4 IGCSE Life of Pi Scheme of Learning
A scheme of work that covers the entire novel and includes reading time, a reading log, exploration of key themes, analysis of quotes, debate tasks and recall activities. Originally designed for the Cambridge 0475 Literature IGCSE.
Suitable for a mixed ability KS4 group. This is divided into twenty lessons but note that the lessons are one hour, thirty minutes each. This would stretch to around thirty one hour lessons.
Students will need their own copies of the text.
A Midsummer Night's Dream KS3 Creative Writing
A lesson focusing on collaborative writing using stimulus images related to A Midsummer Night's Dream. There are three separate tasks to allow for choice and an opportunity to peer assess. Suitable for supplementing an existing scheme or as creative writing practice as a one-off.
Oliver Twist and The Artful Dodger Extract Comparison
Three lessons that focus on extract analysis on Oliver Twist and The Artful Dodger followed by a reading exam style lesson. There is a feedback/forward task after the exam lesson that allows students to consolidate skills. Examples of modelled writing are included. This would supplement an existing scheme on Oliver Twist and be suitable for a high ability year 7 group or mixed ability year 8 class that have already studied the text. It would also be useful as extract comparison practice.
