I am an experienced teacher and currently Head of English and Media in a large secondary school. I am also an examiner for EDUQAS English Language GCSE. I have a range of resources available on TES. Some of my resources are quite old, from when I first started out, and I am currently working in my spare time to update my resources. There are a range of resources from displays, schemes of work, revision booklets, mock exam papers and lessons available.

A Christmas Carol - Charles Dickens analysing the cratchits full lesson

(1)
A full lesson including powerpoint, learning objectives, success criteria and resources. A fun and engaging way of exploring the cratchits in A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. The lesson starts with a 'Christmas Carol Crossword' where they need to identify and recall the family members' names, before moving on to extract analysis. The first extract is modelled already on the powerpoint, but this can easily be removed and embedded timers are on the slides already. Think, Pair, Share opportunities are in the lesson too, with students needing to match up the quote to the description of how Bob Cratchit feels (slide 6 and 7-this will need printing). I have taught this lesson to three different classes and all classes have showed rapid progress and a real engagement in the lesson.

Literary Features Display

(0)
A 95 slide display covering a range of literary features used within English - useful for both analysis of text, poetry, language, media and creative writing. A lot of the slides use Harry Potter, Macbeth and popular films to demonstrate what the feature is, as well as a simple explanation of what each device is. A nice way to decorate your English classroom.

Hound of the Baskervilles extract analysis lesson. Eduqas style questions

(0)
A complete lesson (or 2 depending on group) analyzing an extract of Hound of the Baskervilles and focusing on tension, drama and language analysis. This lesson will encourage students to closely analyse texts and identify language, as well as authors intention and presentation of main themes. A great revision tool as well as a useful assessment for classes. Suitable for all KS4 classes. This sheet was used with a low ability set, but questions are easily altered.

Analysing themes in Hound of the Baskervilles

(0)
Training students to select individual words and phrases and link them to analysis and personal opinion. This lesson allows students to consider a range of themes and match them to short/medium quotes. From this point, students start to select individual words and begin 'embedding quotes' into their analysis- taking them a step above PEE structure. Students can use this to practice skills needed for their Eduqas English Literature GCSE examination. All success criteria, learning objectives and resources are included in the lesson, as well as embedded timers and a 'real world' link to ensure the lesson is 'Ofsted ready'. Students engaged in this lesson and massively improved their understanding of how to answer using embedded quotes.
