Whole class activity which covers division. This activity is excellent for differentiation as it allows for pupils to choose their own level of question and progress to the next difficulty at their own speed. It also encourages pupils to work together independently to solve their difficulties instead of instantly relying on the teacher. I have used it many times with my classes and it has proved to be a highly engaging resource for pupils.
Instructions:
- Print off the card sets on red, amber and green card respectively and place
each set of cards somewhere in the room (keeping the same colours together).
- All pupils start on a red card.
- Pupils attempt the question on their card writing their answer and their initials on the
back.
- Pupils fetch another card and repeat.
- If pupils pick a card that has been completed, they check the answer. If they come
to the same answer they add their initials to the back. If they disagree they find
the original pupil and discuss the question together.
- Pupils move up to the next level of difficulty when they feel they are ready.
Red Cards: Division with no carrying remainders required
Amber Cards: Division, answers are whole numbers, involves carrying remainders.
Green Cards: Division, decimal answers.
Activity where pupils in the class are dealt 2-3 cards each. One pupil has the Start card and reads out an equation. The pupil with the answer on their card reads out the answer and the next equation. This continues round the class until it reaches the pupil with the End card. There are 64 cards, so each pupil will have to stay focused to listen for the equation to which they have the answers, and they will each get a couple of turns at least so they can't disengage after answering one question.
Suggested use: a starter/plenary to consolidate learning early on when studying equations. PDF version now included!
Fun and engaging blockbusters activity for the classroom based on the classic TV show. This particular activity is designed to help pupils consolidate their knowledge of place value.
Split the class into two teams and assign each one to be either blue or white. Each team takes turns to choose a letter that will then reveal a question. If they get the question right make the tile their colour by clicking the blue or white boxes on each tile.
The blue team win if they make a connected row across the screen, and the white team win if they make one going down. Because the blue team have another tile to complete, they should go first.
Complete lesson plan for converting between words and figures and finding the value of underlined digits.
Worksheet included for extra consolidation, and a whole class Blockbusters game too!
Simple to use and engaging bingo game for the whole class. Pupils choose 9 answers to put into a 3 x 3 grid and can go either for a line or a full house based on teacher discretion. Excellent way to consolidate the learning after studying the topic.

Engaging times tables activity where pupils must answer the questions, find their solution in the grid provided and shade in that square. When they have finished their shading should spell out ONE.
The powerpoint has a table of density, mass and volume values, with one missing from each row. The table is covered up, and on each slide two different squares are revealed and then covered up again. Pupils must concentrate to write down the values that are revealed, and work out the missing ones. The first pupil to complete the table wins.
Fun, engaging and easy to use bingo activity to help pupils consolidate their use of the density mass and volume formulae. Recommended for about 10-15 minutes of lesson time after covering the topic in more detail.
30 questions and answers, pupils choose 9 answers at the start and put them in a 3x3 grid before running through the questions.
Engaging decimal division activity sheet that is ideal as either consolidation for numeracy skills or as cover work.
Pupils must answer the questions and shade out the answers in the grid above. When they have finished they should reveal the number 195.
Engaging decimal multiplication activity sheet that is ideal as either consolidation for numeracy skills or as cover work.
Pupils must answer the questions and shade out the answers in the grid above. When they have finished they should reveal the number 612.
Two lesson starters, easily editable to consolidate decimal subtraction.
Just play the slideshow as pupils enter and it will continue on a loop. Two squares of a 4 x 4 grid will be revealed on each slide, showing a question. Pupils have to draw the grid and complete it with the correct answers in each square.
These resources engage pupils as they need to pay careful attention to see which answer goes where, and so they are settled, ready for the lesson ahead - this activity is ideal for low ability pupils as it gives them an activity they can access right at the start of the lesson.
Three great, engaging and easy to use bingo activities on Pythagoras Theorem with different difficulty levels to be targeted at your class. The answers are on the second slide for the pupils to choose at random. The files are in Powerpoint format so they can be used on any system.
The first has questions purely on finding the hypotenuse, the second is a mix of finding the hypotenuse and the shorter side and the questions in the third mostly involve different units - for these questions the students are told on each slide what units to put their answer into.

Complete lesson on multiplying decimals. The lesson includes differentiated questions, including some application of knowledge questions. I have also included an exit pass activity for you to assess how well your pupils understood the lesson (though you may wish to do self assessment with it to save time).
There are two main versions - the "cover" version includes extra explanation and complete working out of the main examples. The regular version omits this so that you can do the working with your pupils on the board, allowing more questioning and AfL opportunities in class etc.
I have uploaded both versions in both Powerpoint and Powerpoint 97-03 formats.
