Atom economy and percentage yield worksheet higher

(0)
This is a worksheet on atom economy and percentage yield for GCSE chemistry (grade B+) that is printed as A4 handouts on atom economy and percentage yield. There are three reactions that all make Magnesium sulphate (Epsom salt) as the useful product and so atom economy can be compared along with issues such as toxicity of waste products or reactants. The YouTube video shows how Epsom salts are used in the garden. The formula for atom economy is included. The answers are not yet included and will be uploaded shortly. Please leave feedback if this is useful or if it can be improved.
Crude oil C1.4 GCSE revision flashcards

Crude oil C1.4 GCSE revision flashcards

(4)
This is a set of 16 flashcards with questions and answers that are printed double sided. When printed this way the questions and answers align correctly. These have been designed for AQA C1.4 but would suit all exam boards. There are 8 challenging questions that will stretch the most able up to A grade. Please rate this resource and leave feedback.
AS Chemistry - equilibrium

AS Chemistry - equilibrium

(5)
This is a lesson on equilibrium for AS chemistry. There are lesson grades C to A with clear AFL tasks including a literacy-based Just a Minute plenary. There is an exam focus throughout with the grade A task getting students to apply their understanding to new reactions. The video is the TED Ed Daniel Dulek video on the Haber Process. Please rate this resource and leave feedback.
Constructing Born Haber cycles - AS Chemistry

Constructing Born Haber cycles - AS Chemistry

(6)
This is an AS Chemistry lesson on constructing Born Haber cycles in order to calculate lattice enthalpy for ionic compounds. Students do not calculate lattice enthalpies in this lesson but rather consider using a diamond nine how various factors affect how exothermic the lattice enthalpy value is. I suggest printing the diamond nine on slide 23 and using it as a kinesthetic activity. Please rate this resource and leave feedback
Film character elements differentiated

Film character elements differentiated

(0)
This is a fun activity that be used as a lesson starter or for revision. Students replace element names with symbols to find the names of film characters (easier) or use the clues to work out the symbols (challenging). Please rate this resource and leave feedback.

2 views on the end of oil - speech and mag article

(4)
US Admiral Rickover's 1957 the end of oil speech and 2004 National Geographic article 'the end of cheap oil. Both have been edited to one page length. Questions are provided. Suitable for high ability KS3 and mid to high ability KS4. Feedback: rowan.savage@hotmail.com
Enthalpy change graphical method and calculating excess - AS Chemistry

Enthalpy change graphical method and calculating excess - AS Chemistry

(0)
This is an AS Chemistry lesson on calculating which chemical is in excess in a reaction. Also students calculate an enthalpy change using a graphical method for reactions that happen slowly and therefore heat is lost to the surroundings when recording the temperature rise. The graphical method involves estimating the actual temperature increase. There is opportunity to use hand warmers for the starter activity and reacting magnesium with oxygen (i.e. in air) as a main activity. Please rate this resource and leave feedback.
Carbonyl reduction AS level outstanding lesson

Carbonyl reduction AS level outstanding lesson

(0)
These are thoroughly differentiated resources designed for an AS level chemistry lesson on reduction of carbonyl compounds. Objectives are framed as learning questions and graded C to A. There are clear AFL plenaries using mark schemes. There is a graded Who Wants to be a Millionaire quiz for an end plenary. The starter is an engaging scents demo using butanal (pleasant) and butanoic acid (rancid butter). Pace and student effort is the key to delivering an outstanding lesson using these resources. Mark schemes can be printed. Please rate this resource and leave feedback.
A level carbonyl oxidation lesson applied to scents
rs007rs007

A level carbonyl oxidation lesson applied to scents

(0)
This is a lesson designed as part of the Edexcel A2 unit 4 scheme of work on carbonyl compounds. In this lesson students can carry out a practical (grade C) to compare the oxidation of primary, secondary and tertiary alcohols. The oxidation and distillation of a primary alcohol is demonstrated. Students then develop their understanding (grade B) by considering which type of oxidant would be best to oxidise geraniol (rose scent) to germinal (lemon scent). Geraniol could be used in the demo. The grade A task is writing organic redox half equations. Please rate this resource and leave feedback.
Limestone cycle C1.2 GCSE revision flashcards x 16

Limestone cycle C1.2 GCSE revision flashcards x 16

(0)
This is a set of 16 revision flashcards created for AQA C1.2 GCSE limestone cycle revision. The question and answer pages should be printed double sided and then cut out. The questions and answers match up when printed double sided. There are 8 Challenge questions to extend students and keywords in the question are highlighted in bold. Font is 1.5 line spacing to make the writing easier to read. GCSE grades D to A. Please rate this resource and leave feedback.
Acid rain newspaper template and websites

Acid rain newspaper template and websites

There is a newspaper template with boxes that students fill in using information from the website links. The NSB website is a website that provides symbol equations (very challenging). The Doncaster website is a lot easier to read and understand. I will later add a lesson PowerPoint and keywords glossary.
Exothermic endothermic enthalpy reactions KS4 KS5

Exothermic endothermic enthalpy reactions KS4 KS5

(3)
This is a lesson that works with a very able top set double science GCSE, triple science GCSE or AS chemistry. The levels are based on AS so these may need to be increased if this lesson is to be used at GCSE. The SAS video is played from 2 minutes 30 to around 5 minutes for the starter activity. The Top Gun theme tune could be used as an activity timer. Exam questions are from Edexcel AS chemistry unit 1 but work equally well for GCSE. The Mr T photo indicates 'challenge&' questions that require resilience (independent learning). Please rate and leave feedback.
Edexcel A level Chemistry Grade Boundaries 2013

Edexcel A level Chemistry Grade Boundaries 2013

This is a PowerPoint that I share with AS students so that they are aware of the grade boundaries. I use percentage equivalents to grade work that is handed in. It is worthwhile bringing to students attention that AS boundaries are lower than A2 despite the increasing challenge in A2.
