**UPDATED January 2017** Added a crossword puzzle with answers This is the 2nd part of a Magnetism unit with year 7 - Year 8 pupils. It includes an engaging illustrated PowerPoint presentation (30 slides) and scaffolded notes which have been customized to go along with the presentation. Three worksheets and a quiz are also included in this pack. Great value! The learning objectives for Part 2 are listed below. By the end of this lesson, pupils will: 1) discover that a magnet can be made by stroking a steel bar with the same pole of a permanent magnet from one end to the other end in one direction 2) be able magnetise a needle and use it as a simple compass. 3) discover that when electric current flows through an insulated wire wound around an iron core, the core becomes a magnet 4) be able to build a simple electromagnet 5) explore ways to manipulate a variety of variables to increase the strength of the electromagnet 6) know some uses of electromagnets 7) distinguish between a permanent magnet and an electromagnet 8) learn the components of an electric bell and how an electric bell works Your feedback is much appreciated.
