The focus for this virtual historical site study is the Basilica of Saint Denis, Paris.
The architectural historical significance for the basilica is that it represents the first evidence of gothic elements of designs incorporated in European buildings. Additionally, the basilica has gained the status as a necropolis for the French monarchy since the 11th Century. The site study also examines role of Abbott Suger as he transformed a 11th Century simple Benedictine Abbey into a gothic basilica that established the standards for gothic architecture for centuries to come.
Included with the resource package is a suggested report scaffold.

In this research activity students are required to prepare a 12-day itinerary for a tourism operator that is involved in offering educational tours for History teachers. The proposed tour of the United Kingdom needs to offer an opportunity for History teachers to become immersed in aspects of medieval culture and society. Students are given a brief a and schedule for the mandatory stops and it is their task to identify significant medieval personalities and cultural achievements for each location.

This research activity requires students to compare the features of two similar medieval weapons - The Anglo-Saxon longbow and the Norman crossbow. As part of their research students will investigate the reasons why the longbow became the standard weapon of choice for English archers and how it allowed the English to dominate the One Hundred Year War.

During the 13th Century, King Edward I construct ten castles in Wales known as the ‘Ring of Iron’. In this activity students will gain a spatial perception for the concept of the Ring of Iron as they need to identify the location of the castles on a map.
