Job overview
Teachers in UISG Secondary “enable all students to gain access to the curriculum and to have the opportunities for success in their learning, relative to their abilities” (CIS D1) and “ensure that planned learning outcomes may be achieved” (CIS D5). It is expected that a “range of high- quality media and information technology is used meaningfully to enrich the quality of the students' learning” (CIS D8). Should the campus have to close, teachers will be expected to maintain teaching and learning remotely.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Plan, deliver and assess an educational program in line with the IB standards, practices and requirements
Teachers meet the International Baccalaureate (IB) programme standards and practices and, if needed, engage in IB training.
Plan and deliver units of work based on subject aims and objectives and assess student progress against the IB’s published learning objectives for the Middle Years Programme in Years 7-10 and the Diploma Programme in Years 11 and 12.
Actively collaborate with teachers within and beyond your subject group to improve planning and assessment
School policies and procedures and development
Be familiar with the UISG Parent Student Handbook, the Staff Academic Handbook and other school guiding documents.
Promote the Student Code of Conduct and use the Behaviour for Learning procedures when working with students.
Participate in developing and implementing the school’s strategic plans
Participate in the accreditation and programme evaluation processes
Keep accurate and up-to-date attendance and assessment records on ManageBac
Promoting a balanced school environment
Contribute towards creating a positive learning community, with colleagues and with students, built on mutual respect.
Understand that adolescents have social-emotional as well as academic learning needs and strive to address the needs of the whole child.
If needed, act as a Homeroom teacher to ensure that student social and emotional needs are directly addressed (see UISG SS JD Homeroom Teacher)
Duties and responsibilities beyond the classroom
Lead, and/or support student leaders in leading, Activities Outside the Classroom (AOC’s)
Perform required duties and supervision and ensure that all students feel safe and secure while at school
When requested, cover lessons for absent teachers
Report any health and safety or child protections concerns to the appropriate individuals
Meet the needs of individual students
Prepare and deliver lessons that are suitably differentiated for levels of English, ability and learning styles
Collaborate with the Student Support Team in working with students who have identified learning needs.
Share student successes and concerns with homeroom teachers, Heads of Year and parents where appropriate.
Participate in parent/student/teacher conferences
Commitment to reflection and improvement of personal practice
Participate in the school’s teacher evaluation programme
Participate in the school’s peer observation programme
Seek out opportunities to extend expertise and keep abreast of current ideas
Participate in in-service activities, external courses and conferences
