Following the success of these Structure Strips for Scientific writing in our school, I wanted to share the resources with others.

Designed to give children the ‘ideal’ structure of a scientific write up, it provides children with a stimulus and tips for what to include in each section, along with tips and success criteria.

These have been used by both Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3 students with great success!

Each page has four strips which can printed and stuck in to the margin of the student’s book. The two sheets combined create a well structured and informative double page science write up.

These IWB slides provide teachers and children with ideas for designing and creating their own Keynote presentation using a WAGOLL and step by step instructions. The slides can cover a number of computing sessions and flow so teachers are not restricted by how long their lessons are. Pictures and clear text provide a clean look to the slides to make them easy to follow.

At my school, I have developed these cards for both pupil self-assessment as well as teachers setting targets for their class. The cards can be trimmed and stuck in books, or made available for children during each lesson.

At the beginning of the lesson, the teacher indicates the objective(s) to be covered using the numbering system down the side of the page. At the end of the lesson, pupils can self-assess themselves as 'red' (early access to the objective), 'amber' (good access, but more needed) or 'green' (secure understanding of the objective.

All objectives follow the Curriculum for England 2014 and match the End of Year Expectations for each year group.

This resource includes 4 Smart Notebook flip charts that took me six lessons to cover (half a term). The flip charts include easy to follow instructions as well as a clear structure to each session with practical actitivies. We gave our science a book twist so the flip charts link to Narnia, but could be changed to any fictional story or location. Lessons inlcude ‘Bright Ideas Time’ which is used to promote scientific discussion. Science Structure Strips are also inlcuded in this resource for investigative work.

Objectives Covered Include:

Compare and group together everyday materials on the basis of their properties, including their hardness, solubility, transparency, conductivity (electrical and thermal), and response to magnets.

Explain that some changes result in the formation of new materials, and that this kind of change is not usually reversible, including changes associated with burning and the action of acid on bicarbonate of soda.

Know that some materials will dissolve in liquid to form a solution, and describe how to recover a substance from a solution.
