<p>A term’s work on creative writing in French using simple and more complex sentences to write poetry - or select a template for a one-off lesson.<br /> Choose from 5 poetry styles on a range of themes such as animals, gadgets and abstract nouns.<br /> The templates provide structure and a stepping stone to independent creative writing, revising phonics, dictionary work and sentence structure.<br /> Completed poems are simple but effective and make a great anthology for the class to read.<br /> Grammar terms used for Year 6 SPaG revision!</p> <p><em>NB: both files are the same - the smartfile is interactive; the powerpoint is a copy as requested for those who can’t access the smartfile.</em></p>

<p>Here is a term’s project based on Harry Potter, Hogwarts and school - or you can select from a range of creative activities to celebrate World Book Day.<br /> Be creative with making a <em>cocotte</em> - pictures are included to show the finished versions which are used as prompts in speaking tasks to prepare a role play based on the <em>Choixpeau</em> scene. These ‘fortune tellers’ were created over a sequence of lessons to cover individual school items, adjectives to describe characters and simple sentences.<br /> Activities are designed to develop speaking and listening skills in preparation for reading and writing at KS2 but can be used with Year 7.<br /> Enough to keep you busy for a few weeks.</p>

<p>Daily reading on display!<br /> I copy these onto coloured card so it’s easier for the children to find the right label: numbers, days of the week, months and weather phrases.<br /> Keep them in a zippy wallet and the children can change the calendar each day.</p>

They traffic light aspects of a higher level that they are working on and add more detailed comments on the back. There’s space for an overall TA level.<br /> Level 5 included so Y6 can think about next steps for Y7. <br /> Easily adapted for other languages.<br />

<p>Year 2 love this role play about travelling to Paris, developing the topic over a term making up a suitcase of souvenirs as we go.<br /> Year 2 add their name and age to the passport and luggage label and say bonjour at passport control when they step off the Eurostar. We add to their simple French conversations to develop the role play, so that we can say hello, thank you and please; ask and follow directions and take photos as we stroll around the city.<br /> We use songs, drama and lots of speaking with actions to aid memory to learn about Paris. We make rubbings of Euros so we have money to buy a croissant or to buy a souvenir from a museum. We write a simple postcard and ‘pack’ all our memories into our suitcase.<br /> What you pack in your suitcase is up to you and your class!</p>

<p>This is a sequence of activities using stories, song, role play and research to plan and write an authentic looking letter in French, from a French soldier in the trenches in WWI. I taught this alongside the Year 6 topic on WWI- enriching their knowledge of WWI from a French perspective.<br /> These activities:</p> <ul> <li>provide plenty of listening and speaking practice in preparation for reading and writing</li> <li>teach ‘daily routine’ in the present tense</li> <li>recycle previously learned language such as weather, food and clothes in a new context</li> <li>link French to the KS2 history curriculum</li> <li>encourage creativity through writing and finding ways to make letters look authentic</li> </ul> <p>I recommend the resource, <em>La premiere guerre mondiale 1914-1918</em> produced by <em>Sandra 1972</em> on this site for, among other tasks, teaching items in a soldier’s backpack.</p>
