This is a 5 frame resource for use with Reception or Year 1 pupils. You can print and laminate it for use again and again to reinforce the key understanding of the fiveness of five. It visually shows multiple ways of making 5. I have used this as a group activity where the children have been provided this resource alongside a blank 5 frame, counters, number lines and a whiteboard or paper and pencils for the children to record their findings.

It can also be a valuable tool for stimulating discussion with your pupils. Talk about the number of reds and yellows. How many altogther? Can you show me 5 fingers? Encourage the child/children to show you one hand to reinforce the idea that we have 5 fingers on each hand. Look there is one yellow. Can you put 1 finger up? How many are down? Link this to the number of red dots on the 5 frame. Repeat the sentence 1 and 4 make 5. Repeat with a different 5 frame.

(As a teacher, currently working full time, I am desperately seeking your support to build my little business. Every purchase means the absolute world to me. As you know, teacher life is hard. If you have found any of my resources helpful, PLEASE leave feedback. It really will make my day. Many thanks)
