Theme - Interesting Plots (Beginnings, Middles and Ends): "Favourite Thingsl"
This is Part 3 of a series of 5 learning resources written to support the teaching of creative writing in the classroom. The resources have been written by Joy Winkler – a former Cheshire Poet Laureate, successful playwright, poet, performer and workshop leader – with a range of accompanying stimulus material provided by the Learning Department at Tatton Park.
The aim of this collaboration is to bring tried and tested creative writing activities to the classroom in an accessible, fun and affordable way. With Joy’s expertise and the rich history and beautiful surroundings of Tatton Park providing inspiration for writing, we believe that this creative writing bundle provides a high quality, curriculum focused programme of learning. The resources have been written with a Key Stage 2 audience in mind, but teachers can make appropriate adaptations for younger and older pupils if they wish.
You can choose to run the activities together or split them over a period of time. You know your class and their needs best – the purpose of this guide and accompanying resources is to give you the tools to build engaging creative writing workshops in the classroom, as well providing you with the confidence and knowledge to deliver them yourself.
This is a creative writing workshop that will use as inspiration
the idea that possessions and the search for artefacts can be part
of a story. Families occupied the Mansion at Tatton for many
generations and before that they lived in the Old Hall. To this
day, there are many of the families’ old possessions in storage
and on display, which are of great interest. For example, the
family state coach used at the coronation of George V in 1911, a
collection of ivory puzzle balls from China, a model kayak from
Yukon and wrist knives from Kenya. These are just a few of the
many items which we could draw on to devise wonderful new
stories.
The resource pack contains a comprehensive teacher’s guide, as well as a selection of accompanying resources and stimulus material.
