Does an exam technique treasure hunt worksheet defy your gravity? Do one-page colour-coded knowledge organisers for each set work interrupt your cadence?

High quality revision resources are the key to success in the Edexcel GCSE Music exam. Over the last 8 years, I have developed a wide range of effective resources (all with answers) to enable both teachers and pupils to feel confident with revision for the appraising element of the exam.

All resources available individually (total cost £95 when bought individually) or as a bundle of resources 1 - 18 for £75 – a £20 saving. Resources also available in four separate bundles (1 - 5, 6 - 10, 11 - 15 and 16 - 18).

All resources include both PDFs and word document versions, and come with answers where applicable.

Included in this bundle are:

  1. FREE Resource: My colour coding system of musical elements (PC Matt Smith) explained - what can we notice and say about any piece of music. My pupils really appreciate the consistency and clarity of this approach across all the set works, and it helps with unfamiliar listening too.

Now with added FREE dictation resources - 10 exam-style questions with handy hints and tips for success.

  1. £10: PC Matt Smith sheets (one-page knowledge organisers sorted by musical element) for each set work, all in one pack. Top reviews from my pupils for revision helpfulness!

  2. £10: Differentiated PC Matt Smith sheets containing less information (one-page knowledge organisers sorted by musical element) for each set work, all in one pack.

  3. £5: PC Matt Smith colour coded GCSE Music key word display resources - great for EXAM TECHNIQUE work so pupils are successful in understanding crucial question words and giving the correct words as answers (e.g. not writing fast in response to questions about dynamics!)

  4. £10: GCSE Music Key Word Dictionary and Parent Pack for use by parents AND/ OR pupils, containing a GCSE Music key word dictionary sorted by musical element and questions about each set work with answers given and common errors explained - great for pupils testing each other in or out of lessons, and great for parental involvement for those parents who are supportive.

  5. £5: Exam technique questions and answer options work book - the whole exam feels more manageable when pupils (and teachers!) understand that there are limited options as answers to each exam question. My pupils have always absolutely loved this treasure hunt activity.

  6. £5: Instrument Roles Revision - this is across all set works, and covers the main exam questions asked about instrument roles. Questions are worded deliberately to pack in as much extra information as possible, so that pupils can turn questions and answers into effective revision flashcards.

  7. £5: Structure and stylistic features worksheets & answers. Exam questions relating to structure and stylistic features are common, it’s good for pupils to have these facts at their fingertips.

  8. £5: GCSE Music keyword version of the game Articulate using the PC Matt Smith colour coding system. Great fun!

  9. £5: Set work identification flowchart - this is a bit of later stage revision fun to be used when pupils are on top of the key set work info.

  10. £5: GCSE Revision Checklist - a comprehensive checklist for pupils to track their areas of strength and weakness for every aspect of the appraising exam.

  11. and 13. £5 Element matching activity (can be turned into flashcards) and question and answer matching exercises - great for exam technique practice for pupils who struggle to remember the basic elements in exam conditions.

14 and 15. £5: Set work info recall - pupils can recall the basic information about each set work in test conditions, or these questions can be used in conjunction with resource 3 (differentiated PC Matt Smith sheets) for pupils who struggle.

  1. £10: Exam Technique - Easy Marks Crib Sheet. This helpful sheet distills the types of question found in questions 1 - 6 of the appraising exam into three distinct types. The sheet is packed full of information and activities to help pupils gain those “easy marks” both from strong knowledge of the set works and understanding of hallmark features of music from the relevant styles and periods. SUPER USEFUL SHEET!

  2. £5: Exam Technique Bingo, anyone! Best used in conjunction with resource 16, pupils will be tricked into doing some outstanding revision with this carefully crafted version of bingo, complete with 25 different bingo cards and clues for the teacher to read out. No preparation required! (Other than printing and a small amount of cutting)

  3. £10: Listening questions and answers for every set work, broken down into sections/extracts of no longer than a minute to ensure that pupils are familiar with the features of every section of every set work, and the questions which may be asked. Great for exam technique, or general consolidation. Timings clearly marked in the questions to accompany the videos in the document, or can also be used with anthology recordings with a little tweaking.
