This lesson examines the characters and key themes in Book XXI (The Great Bow) of Homer’s Odyssey. Students first reflect on how the key themes have been developed in the other books studied in the second half of the Odyssey. Next students are required to find examples for each of the key themes from Book XXI, linking them to the different characters. Finally students reflect on the imagery used in Book XXI and the importance of Zeus’ after Odysseus strings the bow.
