This lesson was created as an introduction to budgeting / saving for a one-off KS2 lesson, but would also work as a KS3 lesson (depending on whether they have been introduced to budgeting / saving before)

1) Have each student fill out the "Things to do at the Fair!" tick sheet - ticking all the things they would like to do at the fair.

2) Give out the "How much will it Cost?" information sheet so that students are able to fill in the "How much will it Cost?" calculation sheet. At the end of this step, each student should have a total amount amount of money they would need in order to do everything they wanted to do at the Fair.

3) Print out (on card if possible) and cut out all the money scenario cards. Hand one to each student and have them calculate how they will pay for their day at the Fair. (Depending on the class, it may work best to have them do this in partners so they can discuss with each other)

4) As an extension, students could a) discuss with the class what they will do to budget / save for their day at the Fair; b) they could think other ways to earn / save money; c) they could modify their "Things to do at the Fair" tick sheet so that it is more affordable; d) they could calculate how much a day at the fair would cost for their whole family.
