The Year 9 Programme Music Listening Assessment centers on understanding musical elements used to tell stories and evoke imagery in programme music. Students will listen to a variety of audio excerpts whilst identifying and analysing how elements like melody, dynamics, rhythm, and texture create atmosphere and convey narrative.

This resource includes a printable booklet with guided questions, a 1-9 grade boundary system, and a comprehensive mark scheme, providing a structured approach to evaluating listening skills and musical insight. It aims to enhance students’ ability to interpret and appreciate expressive techniques in programme music.

This resources includes extended mark questions, similar to the ones found in GCSE Music listening exams.
