This is a lesson to teach the ‘Punto de Partida’ page from Viva GCSE Module 1 ¡Desconéctate!

The lesson combines elements from the Higher GCSE Viva textbook and the Foundation GCSE Viva textbook in order to cater for a mixed ability GCSE class.

This resource consists of a PowerPoint for the lesson, a vocabulary sheet for students to fill in and use for reference, and a worksheet based on the content of the lesson. The PowerPoint slides have notes underneath to explain each task/activity.

The lesson follows the activities provided in the textbook with additional tasks/activities that I have added and explain below:

  • Starter activity to recap weather phrases with a match up task.
  • Slides to introduce new vocabulary and practise pronunciation by repeating after teacher.
  • Slide to use for vocab games such as splat or beat the teacher to help students identify and recall the new vocab.
  • Challenge tasks provided where possible to stretch more able students.
  • Differentiated versions of listening tasks provided - transcript to support students if needed.
  • Translation task based on vocabulary introduced this lesson - writing frame provided to support students with the translation
  • Worksheet created based on a text from the textbook - there is a bronze, silver or gold level of challenge for students to choose from depending on their ability. The worksheet consists of 5 tasks and an optional challenge task. It is based on a text from the textbook and features a multiple choice reading comprehension, find the English translations, find the English translations, fill in a table with info from the text & adapt phrases from the text to say something new.
  • Recap of how to form the present tense including a quick conjugation task to practise using present tense endings. This is intended as a recap as they studied the present tense last year.
  • Dice discussions speaking activity - students work in pairs and roll a dice - number they land on decides the question they have to answer - practises spontaneous speech.
  • Find the odd one out plenary task.

Please note that if you are using the Viva GCSE Higher textbook, this lesson does not feature any of the preterite tense vocab from the second page of the double page spread. Instead it focuses on describing what you do in the holidays in the present tense only as we have found it to be too overwhelming to do both tenses in one lesson.
