This unit of work looks at really challenging students understanding of what constitutes art/music. They will attempt performances of ‘clapping music’, ‘tubular bells’ and ‘In C’ and develop a composition within the Terry Riley style. I’ve deliberately made this unit very practical and entered lots of points for discussion - including playing students the infamous 4 min 33 by John Cage. I’ve often been surprised at how engaged students are during this unit given the complexity of the themes but they enjoy the pieces they play - especially ‘Tubular Bells’. Enjoy!!
